Today it was announced that the path for Montenegro to compete in the Olympic Games was all but cleared. If the IOC approves its admission during the big meeting in July (which will also be where the 2014 Winter Olympics host will be announced), Montenegro will become the 204th and newest member of the Olympic family, and thus a Montenegrin team could debut in Beijing 2008. The other country slated to make its debut in Beijing: Marshall Islands. And maybe Tuvalu will debut in 2008 as well.

Well, if they hurry up, they could make it to 888 NOCs by 08/08/08 -- and that would indeed be Beijing's lucky day!!

Watching the interminable march of nations at any recent games, it feels like they have 888 NOCs already!

It became a new member of the United Nations, too. On the Olympic Winter Games scene, it could make its debut in Vancouver 2010.

It's also already a FIBA and UEFA/FIFA member, would eventually be a part of IIHF in the near future.

Well, wasn't aware that Montenegro was interested in hockey.

The only federations it would probably be really caring about would be IAAF, FINA, FIFA and the IOC the big four.
