Cobi
Sorry I haven't read your replies until now... @youssef: lrd1rocha made a good translation for you; if you need any other help, don't be afraid to ask. @Relay: I bought a collection of 10 videos at the FBO (Barcelona's Olympic Foundation). These videos include the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as videos of all sports and the preparations for the Games. You can go to www.fundaciobarcelonaolimpica.es and send them an e-mail asking for the videos (no online store available, everything has to be done via e-mail). There're many Olympic products for sale, you just have to ask them for a list. @olympian: I'm afraid the link is not shown anymore in elsesports.net , but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist (they just change the links in the different sections every day); maybe you should try to find the topic I posted some weeks ago with the link. baron-pierreIV
Piragüismo / Aguas Tranquilas - no. THat would be Kayak - flat water; so in the regular Rowing venue.

baron-pierreIV
The strangest thing is (unless I'm wrong): it took the Athenian Games of 2004 for a Spanish architect to make his mark but nowhere in Barcelona did he have a single design connected with those Games. (Of course, Calatrava being Madrid-based, might have had something to do with it.)
Kenadian
Calatrava actually did the communications tower on Montjuic by the Stadium. But look at the colourful story of Olympic architecture...the Jordi in Barcelona was designed by a Japanese architect, a Swiss firm designed Beijing's stadium, and Montreal's Stade Olympique is a Paris design. Cobi
Well, Santiago Calatrava wasn't that famous back in 1992; he designed the controversial Torre de Montjuïc, 136 m (Kendegra :: ): Arata Isozaki designed Palau Sant Jordi and Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill designed the INEFC (and the city's airport, btw). Erika
I was very young when the Barcelona Games were going on but I do remember seeing some of the diving competitions and the lighting of the cauldron. It was fantastic! I think that Barcelona was so beautiful! And it is one of the best Olympics ever! Each city is unique and Barcelona was truly something to live up too! I don't remember seeing all of the opening and closing ceremonies but the pictures look amazing! The whole feel of those Olympic games were just wonderful, unbeatable! More Olympic cities could learn a thing or two from that whole experience!! Well done to Barcelona!
LA84
Putting aside my own biased preference towards Los Angeles, Barcelona is my favorite SOG's since I have started watching them. The amazing part of Barcelona, it's beautiful architecture and fantastic Olympic organization aside, is how the city transformed itself. Prior to 1992, I always heard that Barcelona was a dirty, filthy industrial city. After the Olympics it seems that it is a huge tourist destination, perhaps moreso that Madrid or Seville? Prior to 1992, I always heard that Barcelona was a dirty, filthy industrial city. After the Olympics it seems that it is a huge tourist destination, perhaps moreso that Madrid or Seville? Having a biased preference too for Barcelona (my city :: ) I should say that it has spotted on the map as the city #1 in number of visitors, quite far from Madrid, Seville, Granada. Living in Barcelona before the Olympics and living here now means having had the privilege of being a witness of a radical change who turned a grey, industrial city to a colourful and multicultural place where everybody wants to stay longer. In the name of the city, I invite you all to visit us. You will always be welcome to Barcelona! Greetings
Kenadian
If there is proof that the Olympic Games can transform a city for the better, it is Barcelona. A modernized transportation city, a revitalized waterfront, updated facilities, and a greater confidence are the benefits. But on a dollar and cents level - Barcelona has become one of the top 5 tourist destinations in Europe. That is because the Olympic Games introduced the world to this city and then this city kept the welcome open. I've been to Barcelona and love it to death. When ever I'm in a bad mood or having a hectic day, I think of my time in Barcelona and I'm suddenly happy.

True- it's known as the "Barcelona effect," and that's why a lot of cities want the olympics games. The 1992 games have turned Barcelona into a world tourist destination. Not only a world tourist destination, but also a nice place to live. I agree. When I went to Barcelona on my last visit I stayed in Sabadell, so I got to experience what day to day life is like there. By the way, is Sabadell a proper part of Barcelona ( ie. a suburb), or is it regarded as a separate town altogether?

tominger
I visited Barcelona a few weeks before the Olympics were supposed to start and there was this very special mood which I didn`t feel that way in Atlanta and in Athens. The whole city was sooooo exited. A few years ago I visited the city a second time and it was wonderful. Barcelona held wonderful games. Great and stylish venues, nice "look of the games" (never forget seeing the Cobi Comics and cartoons on TV) and I think Barcelona improved a lot and set new standards for all the future host cities. Stylish, mediterran games. Brilliant.
Los Angeles Guy
Barcelona is one of the most vibrant, welcoming cities that I have ever visited. Although I never was in Barcelona during the games, I have been many times after and have seen all of the venues etc. I would love to see the games here again and I think that it is the Catalan spirit that makes it so much more exciting of a place.
