Sir Rols Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 By the way, they never was a single video game that was released on HD DVD, at least not from my knowledge (and I know quite a bit when it commes to video-games). The XBOX 360 dosen't have a standart HD DVD drive, and the add-on drive can only be used to watch movies. Oh, and virtually every seventh-gen multi-platform games, even the PS3 versions, use DVD-9 (it is, after all, the most that a XBOX 360 can handle). Oh, there are 302 events at the Summer Olympics, not 32 (they are 32 disciplines, thought), so when they say 35 events, that means the 100m and the 200m dash are separated events. And you are expecting too much from this game. I guaranty you will be let downed if you don't get your hopes down (and by a lot). Yes, I was going to point out that NO game has yet been released on HD DVD. And also, yes, he's quite ambitious with what he wants in the game, but as I've said over and over again, the Olympic tie-ins are NOT big sellers. I'll be surprised if its anything more than the usual button masher with a few more events than usual. There's no wway they're going to have a huge title with qualifying tournaments, qualification rounds or qualification venues. What we'll have is 35 half-arsed events in ho-hum renderings of the Beijing venues.

Although, if they use the old codes from Beach Spiker (which was developed by Sega's AM2), I would buy the game just for the graphical update (because, to this day, Beach Spiker is still the best Beach Volleyball game ever made... By a landslide).

This means the game's cover will get the regionalized treatment worldwide--what about the Canadian version, is it the same north of the border? I wonder what the TV commercials will be like...

More Beijing 2008 Olympic Video Game Screenshots from Voodoo Extreme Here's the front cover artwork of the video game featuring Amanda Beard, Tyson Gay, Natsha Liukin, and Reeses Hoffa. Apparently, the US will be the only market where there will be noted Olympians gracing the cover sporting the Stars and Stripes. The standard ones I've seen for it in other areas like Great Britain and Germany has athletes but no recognizable personalities and completely different from the US edition (in this case they may actually be CGIed athletes), as was the case with covers from past Olympic video game titles. But Germany has German flag in the artwork's background while the British has the Union Jack. Yet to see the Aussie cover, among others. PS3 version unless otherwise indicated. It's fun, good exercise, and I tell you what, it really did occur to me that it would work really well if they did some type of Olympic, either Summer or Winter Games, edition (it already includes slalom and ski jumping games, and a quite good jogging routine). I was a bit disappointed with the Mario and Sonic Wii Beijing Olympics game, but I think the Fit controller could work a lot better with a lot more sports we see at the Olympics.

james Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Besides collecting of ring in Sonic the hedgehog, I think it has alot to do with the Olympic than most game producers. I am an avid fan of Sonic, anyway. I hope Sonic takes the leading role in Beijing2008.
Durban Sandshark Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 OK, Sir Roltel, you win. I should've listened to you regarding the number of events that was actually going into the game. With the games going into the next-gen video games, I was hoping there will be all of the events, particularly on the PS3 and its immense Blu-ray DVD capacity, but EVERYTHING must be equal and fair as part of the agreement. Another thing: it probrably was going to have a difficult time nabbing the licenses from the team sports. I was hoping to play sports like field hockey, indoor volleyball, and handball--sports that don't get any love for video games here in North America. Oh well, there's always London 2012 and by then XBOX360 will get firmly entranched in Blu and have loads of features like the aforementioned that will make it an even more enjoyable game for years on end. Nonetheless, IGN has the first hands-on look at the Beijing 2008 game with accompanying screenshots that you can click on as you scroll down. Shaping up to be real nice. For one thing, why would the American cover art to the game would have all those notable Olympians and agree to promote it if they actually test it out if they felt in good conscience that it was awful to them? I think one major reason why we aren't getting teams sports lies in the fact that last year in late spring FIBA, the international basketball governing body, agreed to an exclusive participation with EA Sports in their NBA Live series--and FIFA as well. Because the license was late in the NBA Live 2008's development, there wasn't a whole lot, just 8 national teams to play with in an international tournament. Perhaps SEGA and EUROCOM felt if it can't get the FIBA tag, they won't bother with the other international team sports organizations.

To me, it's disappointing the team sports games aren't going to appear like (indoor) volleyball, team handball, and field hockey, games that don't get appearances in video games at least in North America, even as imports. I look forward to see those sports get their due in the future. 32 nations are involved, the important ones anyway for the most part, largely due to the models to create. Coz I played olympic games since 1992, and until 2004 version there is no Indonesia team on the game, I really don't understand, why there is Malaysia, Singapore, but there is no Indonesia ? In olympic history we all know that Indonesia have better record than Malaysia or Singapore, since 1992 we always got the gold, so back to my question is there any Indonesia team in the games ? thank you,

Hmm... as an IT engineer, I will be really surprise, Badminton is a very fast game - the world record is 294 km/hours- in a relative small court -if you compare it with tennis- and there is no bounce effect in the shuttlecock, -if you compare it with table tennis- when the shuttlecock fall in the court, that will be the point , so that will be very difficult to create a badminton video game, that will also very difficult for us to play a badminton video games , and in Athens 2004, Indonesian also got a medal from Weightlifting, so there is no reason why Indonesia is no in the official video games, and Malaysia is only got the medals from badminton too, so why there is Malaysian team in video games ??? -sorry I don't mean to attack the Malaysian-

He reveals what they learned from past Olympic video games duds and, yes, thankfully, there's another option than just that annoying "button mashing" during track events and it's far more than just bare bones to give it a better shelf life. It will take an extraordinary effort to correctly motion capture a virtual badminton game for video game consoles, let alone PC.

Could've used some Aussie Olympians instead, but apparently SEGA of Australia refused to go that route perhaps thinking it'll be expensive to endorse or the athletes won't have the time to promote en route to Beijing.
