Brekkie Boy
With several bids over the years for the Olympics, there must be a number of Olympic stadiums and venues that never made it off the ground, and I'd be interested to see what only ever existed on paper. Suit U Sir !!!
just wondering about berlin. That picture looks very familiar to the converted 1936 olympic stadium, after modernisation. Was this the plan for the 2000 bid? Because, if so, then the conversion has actually happened, and the refurbished olympic stadium (which will host the 2006 world cup final), with it's incomplete circular roof design, opened a few months ago. LA84
Well, if Los Angeles bids for say, the 2032 Games, the proposed renovation of the Los Angeles Coliseum might be the main stadium! :wwww:
Kenadian
I like the LA proposal, but what would the seating be? I thought the stadium was already one of the biggest in the US.
Aronious
The proposed desings for the Sydney 2000 Olympic stadium. Thank god they didnt choose this one. Meh, not so good, but i think the designers of Tlestra Dome in Melbourne might have stolen the blueprints afterwards. To me, this one is acceptable but still would have preffered the final design. LA84
Well, if Los Angeles bids for say, the 2032 Games, the proposed renovation of the Los Angeles Colesieum might be the main stadium! :wwww: My understanding is that it would remain the same - at about 90k. It's sorta in the hands of the NFL at this point. They DESPERATLY want to put a team back in L.A. and in the Colesieum, but the city does not want taxpayer dollars going into renovating the stadium. So since the NFL is demanding major renovations, they are sort of at an impasse. So we'll see in the next few years what happens. Some of you might enjoy this - it'a a 30 second video about the Colesieum showing pix from when it was being built and the '84 cauldron lighting. Is there to much support for the Lakers, Clippers and Baseball? It's the same old story here in America. Greedy rich team owners want a new or renovated stadium but want the tax payers to foot the bill. Los Angeles had a football team for years - the Los Angeles Rams. Then in the late '80's, early '90's, the owner of the team wanted either a new stadium or the Coliseum remodeled. L.A. did much like they did when they bid for the '84 L.A. Games. Said pretty much, "Wish you'd stay but we're not paying for you to have new digs." So the Rams picked up and moved to St. Louis where they were presented with a brand new Domed Stadium. L.A. has a history of not backing down from issues like this, so it will be interesting to see what happends. The NFL lost a lot of revenue when the Rams left town but L.A. is still holding fast that they are not going to burden the taxpayers with a renovation to the Coliseum. The Coliseum is obsolete and something needs to be done with it if they hope to ever get another Olympics (say 2032?) So we'll see what happens. LA84
Very nice! I like how they kept the roof open at the Marathon Gate. Ohhhhhhhh - is that the Olympic Cauldron I see there lit up? :grinning:
Kenadian
Well, if LA ever does anything, I hope they do like Berlin did with its stadium and keep the historic aspect of the Colleseum's beautiful gate. It is an Olympic icon and one of the most attractive stadiums in the USA. I just love that proposal posted here. It is modern but keeps the historic aspects of the stadium alive. Olympic USA
I believe Los Angeles tried to get the latest NFL expansion team- though that team went to Houston, and they are now the Texans. Sorry, i'm a little biased in my support for the Texans, I am originally from Houston I've heard rumors that another NFL team could be in the works in the next few years. If so, then L.A. to me would be a shoe in.

lrd1rocha
I heard talk that the San Diego Chargers might move to L.A., the Chargers were originally in LA anyway. They wanted to move if the city didn't replace Qualcomm Stadium, and they even proposed a design for the new stadium (in same place where Qualcomm is right now). Still, the city mayor got a deal with them, and now the Chargers are forced to stay in San Diego for X years. Anyway, they suck and they want the city to pay $200+ million for their stadium, HA! First start winning games (they are among the worst teams of the NFL) and then we can talk about a new stadium. So, the Chargers are stuck here until 2010 or something like that (2016, if I am correct) Chances are, L.A. won't have them. The Chargers will remain in San Diego. And do you know what? They will continue making money hand over fist at Qualcomm, which was proved to be a superb venue by the recent Super Bowl. Suit U Sir !!!
Will Berlin's olympic stadium be the main olympic stadium in a future Berlin olympic bid in say 2020? The capacity if i'm right currently stands at 74,500? I guess they could easily fit in an extra 500 seats to meet the required 75,000 minimum capacity for an olympic stadium. tariq.pberg
actually i don´t think that the Berlin olympic stadium will match any criterias in 2020/24 anymore... sydney set out new standards i guess. the athens olympic stadium was probably the last one with only 75,000 seats capacity. Los Angeles Guy
Wow those conception drawings are amazing. That LA drawing is pretty cool, but i don't see why they would need extra seating. The stadium already holds 92,000 people.

Oh yes - it would change it indeed. But I like the way they extended the peristyle out on both ends for scoreboards. Those nasty scoreboards they have on either side of the cauldron tower are fugly IMHO. BTW - would be the same capacity at the current 92k. Just lots more skyboxes. Yea the Chargers won't go to LA. They have a GREAT scam going in San Diego with that mayor so why move? Rumor here in SF is that the 49ers are not happy either about not having a new stadium and that they might consider going to L.A. Don't really see that happen, but then again, I never thought the Colts would leave Baltimore for Indianapolis. It will be an expansion team that probably goes into LA. The NFL has pretty much said that LA gets the next one. And surprise, surprise - the NFL is backing down from some of their demands for the Colisieum (parking, etc.) so we will see.
