Colonel Iredale
Yes, please do!!In answer to your question: what should Doha do? Definitely (a)!!! The IOC likes to see profligate spenders for their Games! Especially after seeing these Ceremonies, you'd think the IOC would want a reminder of these? They'd want something grander!! BTW, I'm sending you a PM. Myles, you're an idiot.

rav3n
Hey, peace and love, don't let anyone of us act violent. The Doha 2006 games must be a sucess on all the organization at the sport events, the great ceremony don't say everything about it. If they triumph on that, the IOC will have Doha as a candidate city to take on count.
Guardian
So, I just heard in the grapevine that China has already surpassed the 100-medal total mark. And, it achieved that only after Day 5 competitions. What's next? If this keeps up, China's overall medal total could reach well in the 300-medal mark. Guardian
Not really, baron. What is surprising is that such disparities seems to be growing between the 3 Asian nations that have hosted or will host the Olympic Games and the rest of the Asian continent. So far, 360 TOTAL medals have been awarded in various events, after Day 5. Amongst the past and future Olympic host nations, they have won 228 of them in the same picture. Come see it here: 1. China -> 60 gold, 31 silver, 13 bronze 2. Japan -> 17 gold, 20 silver, 25 bronze 3. South Korea -> 13 gold, 17 silver, 32 bronze 4. Kazakhstan -> 8 gold, 6 silver, 12 bronze 5. Andrew8
Did you know on the Men's Pommel Horse event, there was a three way tie? I never knew that this could be possible... it was an interesting trio... KIM Soo Myun of South Korea, JO Jong Chol of North Korea, and TOMITA Hiroyuki of Japan all got the gold medal (and there were no 2nd or 3rd place).... All three got 15.375 points for their event... just thought that was interesting.....

Francisco Lazaro died in the 1912 Stockholm marathon; and 2. At the 1960 Games in Rome, Danish cyclist Knut Jensen collapsed during his race under the influence of amphetamines and later died in the hospital.; and 3. I know a horse also died in competition, but I forget now at which Games -- maybe Barcelona? I tell ya, these sporting events can kill ya!! I'm really impressed by Qatar's performance at these games... They weren't much of a sport powerhouse in terms of how many medals they earn, but this year's performance has to be their best~ And I notice a very very very close competition between Japan and Korea for second place this year. This shows Japan making a huge comeback after many years of China and Korea medal dominance.
Guardian
Speaking of those pictures you just posted, andrew8, a few of them could or will be in Kaoshiung, Chinese Taipei, for the 2009 World Games. For example, the bodybuilding, squash and cue sports. Baseball could be in the World Games program, too, because of the IOC's decision to kick it and softball off the official Olympic programs. theone
Malaysia is expected to get between 3-5 more gold medals to wrap up this edition of the Asian Games as the best achievement in history of its participation. We had several misfortunes including the loss of current Mr Universe to an unknown Arab bodybuilder due to the so-called "match-fixing" by the jury members. On the other hand, we had several unexpected gold medals as well... in sailing and badminton... and the extra gold from Bowling.. We loss 4 opportunities to strike gold in karate yesterday where all our finalists, including the defending champion only managed silvers. Potential Malaysian gold medalists in these last days of competition: 1. Nicol David - SQUASH (Current World Champion) 2. Azlan Iskandar or Ong Beng Hee - SQUASH 3. Chai Fong Ying - WUSHU (Current World Champion) 4. Josiah Ng - TRACK CYCLING: SPRINT and/or KEIRIN (Athens 2004 finalist, World Keirin Champion) or Rizal Tisin (Asian Keirin Champion) 5. 1 gold from Karate... In Busan 2002 Malaysia got 6 gold, 9 Silver, 18 Bronze.. (best achievement by total medals won, 2nd best achievement by gold medals won) So far in Doha, Malaysia has 5 gold, 15 silver, 10 bronze. If we get the 3 golds, that would be a success for the Malaysian contingent. In DIVING, China is a class above the rest, followed by Malaysia and Japan. Malaysia is expected to get more silver and bronze medals from diving.
