Azerbaijan To Launch 2016 Summer Olympic Bid

Monday, November 13, 2006, GamesBids.com

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sport announced during a meeting with Chinese Olympic Committee vice president Yu Zaiging that Baku will be launching a bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

According to the Minister, although budget outlays to sports development was $200,000 in 2004, it was increased to 6.5 million in 2007.

The meeting between Rahimov and Zaiging held November 12 focused on the build-up to the Beijing 2008 Games and Azerbaijan-China sports cooperation.

Nice, now the 2016 race gets more colourful and exotic

I will believe it, when it is for real. Saying it is one thing; actually doing it is another thing. However, if Georgia (Borjomi) managed to send an applicant bid forward and go through the applicant process for the 2014 OWG, then a Baku bid for 2016 is more than possible.

About as possible as Tashkent 2000.
