Greek composer Basil Poledouris died at age of 61 from cancer.

He wrote the soundtracks of many movies like the 'Hunt of Red October'.

The Olympic family knows him from his music for the music he composed for the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Olympic Games, 'The tradition of the Games' (the tribute to Greece with the shadows).

Gossip.

The people from Atlanta asked first Vangelis to compose the music for this part of the ceremony, but rumours say that he said no saying that he can't work with the people that took away from his country the biggest celebration of the centure.

Too bad, hope he rest in peace. He composed great scores for movies like Robocop, Free Willie, Conan and others, that many movie fans still remember

The other composer of the Atlanta 96 ceremonies scores that also died was Michael Kamen three years ago, also composer of movies scores like the Die Hard saga.

Thanks for the link to the music, it is a very inspiring piece. That segment of the ceremony is, in my opinion, the most enduring image of that glorious evening. It's a shame they never released a CD with the music from that ceremony as they did for 2000.

My condolences to Mr. Poledouris's family.
