Sir Rols
Well, at least one European city sees its chances for 2020 as better than for 2016: BERLIN (AP) - Berlin, which failed to land the 2000 Olympics, wants to bid for the 2020 Games. The bid is conditional on winning the support of Germany's Olympic Sports Union, the umbrella organization for German sports, the city's ruling coalition said Wednesday. Berlin hosted the 1936 Games. "We are ready," Mayor Klaus Wowereit said, adding that the bid would have to be much better prepared than the earlier campaign that failed to bring the 2000 Games to the German capital. Wowereit and other Berlin officials have been pushing for a renewed bid since the success of the World Cup earlier this year. Hamburg has signalled interest in bidding for the 2016 Games. The northern port city lost out to Leipzig as the German contender for the 2012 Games, which went to London. The German Olympic Sports Union is expected to decide whether to back a bid by a German candidate city in the first half of next year. I suppose, though, that still leaves Hamburg as a possible bidder/sacrificial lamb for 2016.

LA84
Finally, one sane, pragmatic city. Just what I was thinking. Berlin needs to have a conference call with Rome and Madrid!
