oakydoky Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 The pictures of the venues construction are very worrisome. Particularly the Velodrome and aquatics venue. I just wonder that if the venues are completed on time, what standard will they be completed to?

You see I am a member of another forum where this thread is doing really fine. Being a Delhite myself I can assure you that you will love to see 2010 delhi games. These games are going to be of Olympic Standards and nothing less.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 I always hoped that New Dehli is able to prove with the Commonwealth Games 2010 that Bharat is able to host Olympic Games in the future, but I have to admit that the pics of the construction status of the proposed venues worry me a lot. I am not used to the "Indian way" to built stadiums, building etc. etc., but I have huge doubts that it will be ready until next year....
Rob2012 Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 You see I am a member of another forum where this thread is doing really fine. Being a Delhite myself I can assure you that you will love to see 2010 delhi games. These games are going to be of Olympic Standards and nothing less. How can you predict that when figures at the top of the CWGF are saying they're not at all confident it'll reach the standards of past Commonwealth Games? I love your confidence but everything I've read doesnt' make me share it. Welcome to the forums by the way!
delhiman Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Jim PLEASE Enough about other GamesThe criticism directed to Delhi 2010 is the fault of Delhi 2010. I was there, I saw it, and the CGF are not to blame on this. Forget the past, forget what was done and promised before This is the fault of the OC of Delhi 2010 and not the CGF, what they did before, who they did it to, how it was done etc. I know you are here to stir the pot but honestly it need to be in the correct forum You seems to have a personal grudge against mr kalmadi. otherwise you should also repose you faith in whosoever person the Govt of India has entrusted the job to do like you are expecting OC in accepting Mr Hooper & co.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 sigh Why are you "sighing", Mo?
baron-pierreIV Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Isn't that stadium at Stratford?
oakydoky Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Why are you "sighing", Mo? He just did a massive burp and is sighing in relief!
Sir Rols Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 You see I am a member of another forum where this thread is doing really fine. Being a Delhite myself I can assure you that you will love to see 2010 delhi games. These games are going to be of Olympic Standards and nothing less. Welcome to the boards, Delhiman Well, I hope and wish you all well that the Games are a success and of a high standard. You must realise, though, that at this stage of the cycle, the gams and preparations for them are now under high scrutiny from many places around the world. You mention Olympic standard? Are there still hopes that Delhi might also still bid for the 2020 Olympics?
micheal_warren Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 You see I am a member of another forum where this thread is doing really fine. Being a Delhite myself I can assure you that you will love to see 2010 delhi games. These games are going to be of Olympic Standards and nothing less. Welcome to the boards. Its good to see you on here. I like your confidence that Dehi will hold an olympic standards games but how can you be so sure. I and many others do not believe this. You are way behind schedule!!
wingspread Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 You seems to have a personal grudge against mr kalmadi. otherwise you should also repose you faith in whosoever person the Govt of India has entrusted the job to do like you are expecting OC in accepting Mr Hooper & co. Personal grudge? Given the way Kalmadi has acted and dealt with the delays, the points raised here are valid.
stevie Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 You know, it's a bit disappointing we don't have more (do we even have ANY???) Indian members. be careful of what you wish for
micheal_warren Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Personal grudge? Given the way Kalmadi has acted and dealt with the delays, the points raised here are valid. Exactly. All the concerns that have been raised are valid and justified.
delhiman Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 How can you predict that when figures at the top of the CWGF are saying they're not at all confident it'll reach the standards of past Commonwealth Games? I love your confidence but everything I've read doesnt' make me share it.Welcome to the forums by the way! I have seen the progress of these venues for some time now. Our main stadium is being refurbished ony (JLN Stadium), Two new stadiums being buits new are almost ready ( Thyagaraja Stadium & Talkatora), games village is almost ready too. you must not think that there is same set of managers, contractors and workers who is going to work on the remaining site. Each site is being developed by a separate team of managers, contractors and workers and there in no dirth of skilled and unskilled labour and workforce in India. The task is worrisome but not impossible. Reason of my confidence is that I live in Delhi itself and I have seen Metro lines getting complete before time every time.
4gamesandcounting Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I guess the issues now are not so much venues delhiman but the coordination with eth CWG Federation, organisation of tickets, sponsorship, security, volunteers etc. If they don't get moving in these areas in the next month or so it will be too late.
Rafa Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Venue progress remains very much an issue.
yashchauhan Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Games will happen on time and the way they are suppose to be. GO DELHI!GO
baron-pierreIV Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Question: why is the main motif in Delhi's logo in the shape of a nautilus shell? I mean Delhi is NOWHERE near a natural body of water? Was Delhi under water eons ago? Is there some fractal meaning to the logo that one doesn't quikcly pick up?? Please, don't tell me it's because Jules Verne's fictional sub captain, Captain Nemo, was of Indian extraction???

The logo, I believe is based on the 7 chakras.
baron-pierreIV Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 The logo, I believe is based on the 7 chakras. Oh, OK. That makes sense. But are the 7 chakras based on the fractal proportions of a nautilus shell?
Citius Altius Fortius Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 (edited) Games will happen on time and the way they are suppose to be. Welcome to the boards yashchauhan - it is great that more and more Indians are joining our forum. It is good that people support their city/country, but I think "trust" isn't enough anymore, that anything will happen on time and will be like the way they are suppose to be, - I think the people demand answers how Dehli resp. India want to try to get it ready in time... Edited November 1, 2009 by Citius Altius Fortius
oakydoky Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Oh, OK. That makes sense. But are the 7 chakras based on the fractal proportions of a nautilus shell? I don't believe so. I think they are some Hindu spiel about energy systems and come from a Sanskrit word, whereby Chakras mean 'wheel'.
wingspread Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 be careful of what you wish for And here they come, one by one.
