Rob2012
LORD Norman Foster, the architect who designed the new Wembley stadium, will this week be announced as one of the bidders shortlisted to design the Olympic stadium for 2012. Foster, whose other projects include the “gherkin” skyscraper in the City of London and the Millennium Bridge, is in a consortium with URS, the engineering design company, to design the 80,000-seat stadium. Sir Robert McAlpine, the construction company that is in a rival consortium with HOK, the architects, is also expected to be shortlisted. McAlpine and HOK built and designed Arsenal’s £357m Emirates stadium in north London. Despite Foster’s formidable reputation, McAlpine and HOK are expected to be favourites for the deal after winning plaudits for the Arsenal contract. The Olympic Delivery Authority hoped to receive several bids to build the flagship stadium, but many construction companies are understood to have been deterred by the complexity of the brief and the adverse publicity surrounding the delayed completion of Wembley stadium. The Olympics stadium must be capable of being transformed into a 25,000-seat athletics venue once the Games are over.
baron-pierreIV
So who would have the edge? The Lord or the Sir? (BTW, what is the difference? I thought the Sirs sit in the House of Commons -- or is it the other way around? Where do Sirs Elton and Andrew Lloyd Webber sit -- well, aside from their private commodes at home? its a bid of magic
I think they would both be capable of doing a good job, to be honest with you. They have got impressive CV's. That Millau Viaduct in France, is jaw dropping. How high is it?
