Olympics measure

Tribune staff, wire reports

Published September 14, 2006

Taking a procedural step toward the possible hosting of the 2016 Olympics, the Chicago City Council passed a resolution supporting the principles of the Olympic Charter. The resolution details the city's agreement to abide by "the spirit, principles and ideals" set forth by the U.S. Olympic Committee, including providing venues at market rental rates, respecting anti-doping rules and cooperating with other units of government. Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco are competing for the chance to be the U.S. candidate city for 2016.

This is very good news and should help a great deal as the USOC makes their final decision. B)
