Gibraltar want to be another Monaco. A luxurious micro-State in the Mediterranean, with casinos, skyscrapers and corruption.

With the apes as the croupiers!!

But seriously, if this were so, then they would have to hire all those Spaniards to run the hotels and casinos. But wait, Madrid would not allow them.

Or it could be worse: Gib could hire all those Moroccans to run the casinos instead!!

I love this argument!! Just the thing to unite the Europeans.

I have a solution for the fate of Gibraltar. No one's asked the famous Barbary apes of the island. Let them decide on whose side they'd like to play soccer!!

How come the UK hasn't given:

1. the Elgin Marbles back to Greece? They seem to belong to the Acropolis.

2. the Channel Islands back to France? They are closer to France than to the UK.

3. Las Malvinas back to Argentina? They are closer to Argentina than to the UK.

4. Gibraltar back to Spain? It is closer to Spain than to the UK.

Who cares what the inhabitants feel? Move them all back to the UK.

in the 60´s ,when UK said to Spain that the gibraltarians have rights and feels,etc...they evacuated by force 3000 chagosians to Mauritius because they want to rent Diego Garcia to US...the rights of the civilians depends of the imperial interests...

anyway,I hope that this affair would be resolved with dialogue in some years...

PD: I was in London the past weekend and I saw the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum...

London is a beautiful, clean and wonderful city...good luck for 2012.

I suspect Spain, as a colonial power, also has episodes in its history that it would not be proud of. Would you care to discuss them?

I don't have any problem in talking about the Inquisition, the Thirty Years War or the American-Spanish War.

On the other said, I'm proud of our emperor Charles I who defeated the Turks in Lepanto and Vienna, and defeated the Frenchs in Pavia. Or our King Philip II and the battle of St. Quintin.

PS. The conditions of Franco to enter in the II WW were: Hitler and Mussolinni should let him to invade Andorra, Portugal and Gibraltar, and help us with the rebuilding of the country.

Can have 'em back tomorrow as far as I'm concerned!

Do you know we were actually negotiating to give 'em back when the Argies stupidly decided to invade! That left us no choice but to fight to keep 'em.Our national honour and dignity was at stake.Even you can understand that!

The point is Gibraltar has the same status than Bermuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos, the Virgin Islands... and all have a FIFA recognized football team. Also, even Hong Kong and Macao have one. Why not Gibraltar? Bah... who cares that their football association is older even that the Real Federación Española de Fútbol...

About the sovereignty... Spain lost Gibraltar in a war. If you lost it in a war, you have two options: win it in a war or negotiate. But don't act like the other are the bad guys. Gibraltar hosted a referendum in 2002 and more than 90% of votes were against of a shared administration between the Brits and the Spanish. Gibraltar isn't Spanish since 1704!!! Com'on... stop crying like babies.

But you have to understand that Argentina was ruled by Galtieri, a chauvinist and populist militian. Argentina tried to invade Chile in 1978 just to stop with the critics to the government and the "argentuzas" did the same thing in 1982... with the problem that they didn't expected to be humilliated by the Brits (and our secret but friendly cooperation :))

They were part of the original duchy of Normandy. You may recall that it was a certain Norman duke who invaded and occupied US back in 1066! It's not our fault that when the French re-conquered Normandy in 1449,they failed to re-take the Channel Islands as well!!

Ah, but if you don't have a rep to the Miss Universe contest, then technically, you are NOT a sovereign country. That is the one true test of nationhood -- not the Olympics, the UN or FIFA.

And Gibraltar had participated at Miss Universe. Even in 1984, its rep was chosen as "Miss congeniality". They participated in most of the Miss Universe of the 80s and some in the 90s, and they are participating in Miss World.

"The captors had ostensibly fought in the interests of Charles Archduke of Austria (afterwards Charles III), but, though his sovereignty over the rock was proclaimed on July 24 1704,Sir Gorge Rook on his own responsibility caused the English Flag to be hoisted, and took possession in name of the Queen Anne. It is hardly to the honour of England that it was both unprincipled enough to sanction and ratify the occupation ,and ungrateful enough to leave unrewarded the general to whose unscrupulous patriotism the acquisition was due.The Spaniards keenly felt the injustice done to them ,and the inhabitants of the town of Gibraltar in great numbers abandoned their homes rather than recognize the authority of the invaders"

If they felt it that keenly, why didn't they fight to take it back?

Why Gibraltar doesn't participate in Eurovision. Don't they have their own TV station? Then they could give 12 points to UK for ever!

Why Turkish Cyprus doesn't participate in Eurovision. Don't they have their own TV station? Then they could give 12 points to Turkey for ever! <_<

No UN member except Turkey recognizes the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Apart from Spain, no country seems to have any problems with Gibraltar as a crown colony of Britain.

That's why the FIA are investigating the presentations at the Turkish Grand Prix, because somebody from the alleged Turkish Cypriot state presented the trophies.
