I forgot to include where I've found pins: - @ the Art Gallery today, they were handing out BC Day pins - Canadian Mint Pavilion - Saskatchewan House - Manitoba House - Canada House (but they were those crappy canadian flag ones)
SkiFreak
What kind of "crappy flag pin"? I hope some of the houses will send me them, I can't make it to Vancouver It's probably one of those cheap plastic pins they hand out on Canada Day. SkiFreak
CAUTION: Counterfeit pins in circulation! SkiFreak
Just read this on the 2010VanFan blog: To find it you enter the casino and head for the escalator at the far side of the playing floor, then head up to the second floor. Right in front of you you’ll find the Stadium room, which is where you want to be. Now, besides pin trading this room is equipped with THREE large screen televisions showing the Olympics, plus theatre style seating, plus $1 hot dogs and the best yet… $2 beer! Want to trade some pins and watch some hockey? Then this is where you want to be. $1 hotdogs and $2 beer? I'll definitely swing by the Edgewater on Monday or Tuesday for some trading. GeeCee
Main Media Centre - I'm actually a volunteer for the Games, and have access to the retail store at the MMC. I've just bought that one. As far as I know, each venue has an individual pin like this, and only people who have access to that venue can obtain those pins outside of trading. GE, BC Hydro, Petro-Canada, Workopolis were all gifts/traded with in person with representatives from those companies which I assisted due to my volunteer position. The CP Rail pins were given to me by a fellow volunteer who works for CP. The maple leaf one which is partially covered up (oops) is from West Vancouver. I believe that these were created by children attending schools in the West Vancouver area, and are sold by the municipality itself at civic buildings. I'm not 100% sure about that though, as I was given it by a volunteer. See: http://www.westvancouver.ca/Visitors/Level3.aspx?id=23766 I can take a closer picture of any of the other ones. The metal detector one that is covered up is a Garret pin who supplies the hand scanners for security screening purposes (traded to obtain this one). We are going back next week without the kids so I'll have more time to pester people Whereabouts is the Mint Pavillion again? I misplaced the location. If they got pins I'll definitely be there. GeeCee, how did you score the Petro Canada spinner? Each time I contacted Petro Can, all they sent me was the initial rectangular one. This spinner pin must be one they rolled out recently. SkiFreak
Just got back from four days of enjoying the sites and sounds around Vancouver and a harrowing drive over the Coquihalla (very bad conditions by the snow shed, almost spent the night there thanks to all the semitrucks that were blocking the highway, even my Honda was slipping and couldn't make it up the hill; had to wait for a sand/plow truck). Anyway, despite the drive back this evening, I had an awesome four days at the Olympics and scored a bunch of pins. I got to head off to bed as I have to work in the morning, but I'll post a pic of my haul tomorrow evening.
SkiFreak
Anybody see any Sochi bridge pins or Sochi sponsorship pins anywhere around Vancouver? All I got was a Sochi logo pin from one of the girls in the Russky Dom.
SkiFreak
Who makes the bridge pins? Artiss Aminco or the Sochi liscensee? I honestly don't know. The only bridge pin I've seen in Vancouver was the Vancouver 2010/London 2012 pin being sold at The Bay, and that is an Artiss Aminco pin. It's strange, during Torino there were a number of bridge pins and sponsorship pins for our games, but for Sochi, the only pin I saw, or obtained, was the one the girl gave me at the Russky Dom. I don't think I saw any Sochi pins at the Pacific Pin Club's trading centre at the Edgewater.
GeeCee
I lost my Main Media Centre pin today!!! :( Must have fallen off on the Canada Line on my way to Switzerland House. SkiFreak
Here's my pin haul from Vancouver... I was lucky to trade for the Canadian Olympics pins. The Bay only had the red Maple Leaf one left: My one and only Media pin, from Hearst Television Inc in the states. I did an interview with these guys at the Russky Dom: I don't have much pins from Torino, so I picked-up this one from one of the guys that was at the Coke cafe pin trading centre in The Bay: And the only pin for Sochi I managed to get, as well as a button, both obtained at the Russky Dom: I'm still going to be sending out e-mails to companies. There's still a few pins I want to get from some sponsors. I'm still awiting a reply from Omega. I'm going to try Visa again.
