blueview Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 EXPO2020 manila Celebrating Light and Life! The Concept: Light and LifeThe World Exposition of 2020, should it be awarded to the city of Manila would carry the theme Light and Life as an allusion to the literal and symbolic link of light to the multiple facets of life. The Site: Boulevard 2000, the Manila Bay Reclamation Area The proposed site of the exposition would be at the reclamation area at the waterfront of Manila Bay. Comprising of five interconnected islands, this waterfront area is currently anchored by two main developments: the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex, and the SM Business Park. In the long term, the area envisions itself to be home to a varied mix of business communities, high-rise residential developments, and sprawling recreational and leisure commons. Located just a mere ten minutes away from the airport, the site would be located well inside the city center, in close proximity to support facilities for the expected visitors like shops and hotels as well as other city destinations. The proposed extension of existing commuter train systems would likewise connect the site with the rest of the city. The whole reclamation area being essentially a new town development has already entailed the laying down of vital utilities such as power, water, and telecommunications. Home to the country’s national theater and a host of the pioneering convention facilities in Asia, the CCP complex would be a perfect support facility providing meeting facilities to formal meetings and symposia, and additional venues for cultural and artistic performances by visiting troupes. With the presence of established venues and a mere five minutes worth of drive, this area would perfectly act as a satellite exposition site serving other ancillary exhibitions during the expo’s duration. Anchored by one of biggest shopping malls on earth –Mall of Asia (MoA), the SM Business Park is a 60+ hectares area envisioned as a new alternative for business and commerce because of its proximity with the city center. In the near future, the park would be home to a large convention facility and an indoor stadium as well as other office developments. This district will form a perfect complement to the exposition by providing a commercial destination near the expo site thus guaranteeing a constant flow of visitor arrivals. The proposed expo site would be set at the Nayong Pilipino (Philippine Village) leisure estate where a vast entertainment, cultural, and leisure part was initially planned to be developed. Located south of the CCP and SM Business Park districts, this area will essentially complete a triumvirate of developments in the whole reclamation project. Approximately covering an aggregate area of 200+ hectares, the site would be suited to sprawling type developments with generous provisions for green open spaces – exactly the kind of development that the expo2020 would need. With existing major road and utilities infrastructure already in place, not to mention being one of the best vantages to see the ever glorious sunset of Manila Bay - an apt environment for an exposition zeroing in on light, the site promises a relaxed, convenient, and spectacular setting to host one of humanity’s great gatherings in 2020. The Legacy: In the micro-sense, the staging o the World Expo in 2020 at the Boulevard 2000 would give an iconic prsence to the vast lands beside the bay. It would ultimately serve as a catlyst for its growth and devlopment. After the event, the expo site may then be openend up for public use as a recreational parkland, or to continue with the original intended use as a cultural and entertainment village. The World Expo of 2020 would definitely give a big boost to the city and the whole country in general by giving the city a chance to host this mammoth event, the city would likewise reciprocate by committing in the creation of the necessary infrastructure and services for the event’s success. All of the proposed developments and necessary changes for the event would effectively guarantee that the world expo would leave a legacy of improved facilities, enhanced environment, and ultimately a better Manila. Proposed Duration of the Exposition: 02.02.2020 The proposed start of the exposition would be on February 2, 2020 (02.02.2020) on the opening ceremonies and will run through the mandatory 6-month period through July. Following the auspicious play of the date’s numbers, the time frame will cover the dry seasons in the Philippines and will end just about the start of the monsoon rains. It would then be a perfect opportunity to venture out into the rest of the country since majority of the country’s folk and religious festivals would happen at this time.

bong Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Presenting the EXPO 2020 Manila Bid Logo... Impact
wingspread Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Presenting the EXPO 2020 Manila Bid Logo...Impact Okay, I only saw your Manila 2020 world expo concept now. Nice logo and concept. Made me think that Manila really is a nice city with lots of potential. But I just rode the EDSA MRT today and I'm amused at all this sugar-coating. I also think that if Manila were to bid for the Olympic Games (all together now: HAHAHAHA!) the reclamation site at Manila Bay would be the most feasible location. You just hafta worry about the surrounding areas like slum-ish Pasay. That's the thing about Manila; if you want to consider holding a major fancy international event you have to clean up the entire NCR. Pfft. Anyway, I think the speculative Expo 2020 bidding competition here at GB.com is being revived. I'll be looking forward to how you'll sell Manila here.
thatsnotmypuppy Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Ha ha - that logo looks like the poster for 'Deep Impact' - I like it! Also - you are required as part of the comp to show a map of where in Manila you plan on placing the Expo site, etc.
baron-pierreIV Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Light and Life... ooohhhh, that sounds very Imelda-Marcos-ish. Only thing missing is Beauty and Star!
blueview Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 yep, very Imeldi-fic! I'm sure we could like insert a pavilion in her honor since it was her initiative that the Manila reclamed lands came into being. It shall be called "Pavillion of Beauty", a glass cube with "butterfly" sleeves on either sides, which will house her infamous collection of footwear and custom-made jewelry. Perfect!
bong Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 This bid submitted for the first Expo2020 competition last year! The logo is over 1 year old and it did not age well IMHO... Anyway, we might as well revive the bid blueview... Wait for the new concept... venue assignments, schedules and of course a brand new bid logo and a mini book... Ready?
baron-pierreIV Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 I suggest burying Imelda underneath the ladies restrooms (as she did workers at that Film Festival Pavilion) without any mention of her at all!!
