Ceremonies On Youtube

Recommended Posts

Thanks once again Christos, your catalogue of olympic vids is amazing, i never had the chance to watch the handover to Athens 2004 until now, simple but symbolic, great music of Vangelis (too bad he didn't performed at the ceremonies in 2004, like he did in the IAAF)

Christos, if you have the opening ceremony of Sydney 2000, try to publish it too, since there's nothing of it on the net :( (just a few videos)

And I'd love to see LA's losing ceremony -- I've only seen the UFO and the Lionel Richie segment so far.

But what I liked most to see (finally) are Lillehammer's opening and closing ceremonies. I only know short excerpts of those, and that's why I really regret that my real interest in the Olympic Games didn't start before 2000 so that I actually didn't care back then about obviously the best Winter Games ceremonies ever. Does anyone have videos of those?

Me too, i never watched the ceremonies of Lillehammer, or Albertville. The first ceremony i watched was Atlanta 96 (altought i knew about the flaming arrow of Barcelona 92 before it), so my interest for the olympics. I started recording the games in 2004, and the first winter olympics i watched were Nagano 98.

The UFO segment of LA'84 dissapeared from Youtube a year ago, but I got a copy of it. I would like to upload it, but i dont know if this video have copyrights from Hollywood, since the user account who uploaded it was deleted. So i'm going to upload it tonight to some hosting service, so everyone can download it.

I just uploaded a couple videos from the 1984 Opening Ceremonies. These are from the original U.S. broadcast, and ARE NOT the same as the videos from the IOC site (although the first one starts off at the same point):

I also have arround there a vif from japanese tv, a fragment of the parade of athletes, with Japan and Chinese Taipei marching, you can listen better to some marches used at the segment.

Many thanks for the vid, also thanks to christos for his contribution. If you have more vids of the ceremony (like the complete artistic performances) try to upload them sometime.

Thanks so much again, Christos! :D

It's great to see footage of the 1984 LA Opening Ceremony since it was first broadcasted on ABC. One of the things I remember the most is just how colorful it all was in its look, using light colors (Columbia blue, pink, teal, fuschia, yellow, and red) for the boundaries and of the participants. I don't recall seeing a gospel choir but they were there. Do remember the frontier and "manifest destiny" pagentry. BTW, those parts of the LA ceremony with narration came from the 16 Days of Glory doc. I watched it when it was on PBS every Thrusday summer night in the leadup to the Seoul Olympics. After about 40 minutes, there's an interview with Bud Greenspan. I hope the entire ceremonies will be added eventually (the ABC telecast preferably)

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Marching Band Part 1 ended the first disc of my Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony DVD. Unlike Seven's coverage, after passing over the scenes of Sydney and view overhead of Stadium Australia, ET1 had shot of looking out from the upper deck of the stadium and back into the crowd with shots of people doing the wave and more stands up until the countdown (7 did have shots of Howard and Carr doing the wave). On the second disc, it immediately opened with an overhead view of the Stadium Australia again, but it did go back where it left off. Ert showed the missing two minutes of the Olympic theme and then to Waltzing Mathilda (the second disc starts there). Everything else was identical

Does the ERT announcers sound like they're commentating via telephone?

Any more of the Athens preshow?

Jessye Norman sings the finale of the Atlanta 1996 Opening Ceremony, "Faster, Higher, Stronger"

Thanks. I like this song a lot. Great way to conclude the Ceremony!

I also like the version that was sung at the beginning of the closing ceremony during the presentation of the athletes.
