Guardian
Will they discuss the "Ring of Fire"? I mean that is such a crucial element to those Games. Highly doubt it. I think this meeting was more of the update on what it really matters for the city so far, like the usual issues when it comes to the Olympic Games. Guardian
Just before the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics begin, it is logical, and traditional anyway, that the IOC would have an Executive Board meeting take place in the city in late 2009. Link: IOC: IOC Executive Board Hears Organising Committee Reports Quote from the article: EB in Vancouver "During the VANOC presentation, the IOC President suggested to VANOC to host the IOC’s Executive Board towards the end of 2009, which VANOC warmly welcomed. This meeting would allow the members of the EB to visit the 2010 Host City just before Games time in order to get a feel for Vancouver and experience the growing excitement around the Games. The visit of the EB to a host nation before the Games is a traditional part of hosting the Games."

Like totally.......ick. are you kidding me? that's one gorgeos convention centre. And construction has been ongoing since 2005....this is nothing new, and it's costing nearly $900 million. not every convention centre has to look white and flashy, this one appreciates and blends in with its surrounding environment, and it's a great example of sustainability with the largest green roof in the nation. You have to see it in person to really appreciate it:

Kenadian
The convention centre project was planned no matter what the outcome of the Olympic bid was. At the time of planning, the current convention centre was deemed too small to compete for bigger conventions. That market changed and is more competitive. But given the recent annoucement of a 50% government surplus, it doesn't seem as if the government is spending as much...likely time for a tax cut.
