That ship’s long sailed. The only ones really able to do that are the IOC members and those with super deep pockets and private jets.

For the rest of the 99.9999999 per cent, what works on TV is what works.

I will say even in Milan the venues were spread out and were at the edges of the city. It did not feel cohesive and did take away from the spirit of the games. Contrast this to the Ice park in 2018, all the venues were within walking distance.

Korea built everything from scratch, Milan had a different environment with the IOC’s sustainability agenda, so had to go for another solution. It did indeed suck away some atmosphere apart from the Cortina cluster, but if it’s that or not finding hosts anymore, then that’s the world we live in.
