Athletics at LA28

Not sure if this is new (I’ve seen a few posts on socials about LA releasing their full schedule today), but sound like starting the games off literally running:

Going to be odd having athletics right off the bat, as it were. Gives them space to experiment with the scheduling even more. Athletes seem to be on board with it too, so all good!

With the prelims and finals all w/in 8 hours of each other -- a first in history!!  Indeed as the calendar stretched into its 9th, 10th, 11th day -- it always seemed funny to me that all of a sudden, they'd drop these short races in.  Now, it makes sense:  Day 1 - shorter races and as the competition days progress, you advance to the longest races --culminating in the marathons on July 29 and 30th -- and still keeping in tradition.  

Also, and I don't know where else they have done this.  Boxing prelims are in the 7,100-seat Peacock Theater.  And then 3 or 4 days of the Boxing Finals at the 20,000-seat Lakers Arena (or whatever it will be called by then).  

But I think LA28's biggest boondoggle will be recruiting bus drivers.  Right now, I just heard on the car radio, ICE will go after the many thousand undocumented long-haul trucking drivers in the US.  That will then even cut down the pool of available bus drivers for LA28 -- unless LA28 starts training Los Angeles folks so they don't have to pay for their lodging, etc.  With what?  40 venues or so across the southern CA landscape, I don't know if there is a computer of an algorithm right now to plot the logistics of moving around even--just the Olympic family and workers -- without thinking of the spectators, etc.  Has LA bitten off more than it can chew??

Obviously, the 100 m preliminaries would need to be scheduled on day -1 if day 1 is already the final. There will likely be 4 rounds, and you can have max 3 in one day, rather 2 IMHO. Probably have a pre-opening session with qualifiers in some throws or jumps too. Then again, this might clash with the OC preparations…

Day 1 in athletics is usually just one final, e.g. 10 km, plus qualifiers, with the 100 final on Day 2, and having that in the middle of the overall schedule so far was not a big deal. But with the new sequence of athletics first, and the obvious wish to put a „big bang“ event like 100 m right there at the beginning, I hope they‘ve thought this through.

So, over at LA Memorial, that's why I think most of the OC share over there would be just rock bands; maybe some interpretative dance version of the Athletics competition -- in addition to the Grand Finale of Lighting the same Cauldron for the 3rd Olympic time -- another Olympic first (something which London and Paris did not have).
