Because I'm really struggling to think of a single one. Why not both? Long (*) prison time which ends in suffering from a terribly agonising disease without cure or at least the chance to swallow morphines. (*) the clock is running down anyway on Felon-in-Chief, so „long“ is relative there, but the rest of the gang can have many miserable years ahead still Quote

Bear Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 So it's just going to be a trend that every Winter Olympics is followed by a major conflict? Quote
sebastien1214 Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 A wonderful gift for Putin to further bolster his desire to return to the Olympics. The position of leaving Russia out will become even more untenable if no action is taken against the US or Israel, regardless of what one thinks of that shitty Iranian regime. 1 Quote

sebastien1214 Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 If there were to be even one, and I mean one, positive effect of this war... it would be that it would definitively condemn the Republicans in the midterms. Well... it's a shame it's only ten months away, given how forgetful Americans are. A little later, we might even have hoped for a miraculous Senate flip for the Democrats. Quote

As I've said before, Americans are imperialists by nature, regardless of their political affiliation. However, it's all the economic consequences of this war, which Trump apparently didn't anticipate (?), exacerbated just now with the announcement of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, that risk "killing" the Republicans (and Trump) in the midterms. We'll have to keep an eye on gas and oil prices in the coming days, but the outlook isn't good at all. Quote

Rob2012 Posted March 3 Author Report Posted March 3 (edited) fwiw I don't see it as reflecting badly on your country. I think it's easy to be too judgemental towards other world leaders trying to work out how the hell to react to this, and I don't envy any of them. Maybe they don't get it right sometimes, but in no sane world should they be having to react to such events or to someone like Tr*mp leading America. I'm focussing my anger on the source of the problem - Trump and those in his own nation who enable and support him. Edited March 3 by Rob2012 1 Quote
sebastien1214 Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 I'm honestly tired of seeing European leaders running to the White House again. The mere fact that Merz went there is enough to make me annoyed with the German Chancellor yet again. It's been four years now since we were supposed to have realized the shock we Europeans need to deliver to take control of our own autonomous and independent defense (and independent foreign policy!) from the Americans. And yet, we're still going to the White House to try and curry favor with Trump in an attempt to appease him. And meanwhile, European countries are still buying F-35s. Lol, what a joke. European leaders are throwing tens of billions of euros at American manufacturers and then whining that we're not rising to the challenge—what hypocrites! The only reasonable position our European countries should have taken is, "We don't care, it's none of our business." Iran is a country run by a shitty regime, but it poses absolutely no vital threat to Europe. What the hell did we get ourselves into by getting involved, tacitly supporting the US/Israel? Now we have Hezbollah launching drones at Cyprus, great, great success. I don't believe for a second in this damn desire of these two countries to do "regime change" (and even if it were true, haven't the examples of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya taught us a thing or two?). We see it clearly with Venezuela, where in reality, Trump doesn't give a damn about having a dictator at the head of the country (which is what the "interim president" is) as long as she obeys Trump's wishes, and you'll see that it's going to be the same thing in Iran. So what are we doing getting involved by supporting the imperialist aims of Israel and the US? Thank goodness for Pedro Sanchez in Europe... Quote

People like Merz and Rutte who sit there silently while he insults our allies are very much enabling him too, and it makes me really angry (apart from many other reasons to be angry about thus awful Chancellor - there is a reason Merkel managed to keep him away from power for two decades, she knew he’s as arrogant as ignorant). About a week before the Winter Games, gas here in Kelowna was down to $1.09 a litre. It has been going up and down each week between about $1.34 and $1.17 all winter. Today it shot up to $1.56. Would be nice if Alberta would start building that other pipeline (or more refineries). I think Energy East or a line up to the Port of Churchill would be a better idea now. Quote
