This one’s likely destined to get a lot of replays

That’s what they want. Even when it comes as criticism. And that awful brain-poisoning app that many now defend as freedom of speech and which bowed to the orange to get re-instated after a few hours of “ban” will amplify this even further.

It’s all sick and NYT, WaPo, even the Anti-Defamation League, not calling it out for what it is just means that Sauron is basically winning. Very dark days ahead, but hey, Caitlyn Jenner is happy that she’s back to being officially Bruce again apparently.

Oh and BTW everyone who voted for that evil “because eggs are too expensive”…well, you’ll see how prices come down now that the Panama Canal will be invaded.

It’s worse than “but her emails” in 2016 because this time everyone could know what a bad person, and politician, he really is and that democracy was really on the line. But rather go splitting hairs on the left-liberal side (and voting for fring or not at all than supporting a qualified woman in a tight race) and let the far right suceed in its only ambition: to rule for the sake of ruling.

I am absolutely furious at all those morons that send the US, and with it also the supporters of democracy around the world, into the abyss that will undoubtedly follow, rather sooner than later.

Okay, this could get interesting. Kremlev’s sucking up to the Orange one (from Kremlev’s personal sports news site):

IBA adresses Donald Trump

In an open letter to the United States' newest president, the International Boxing Association's leaders expressed gratitude for his stance on banning transgender athletes from partaking in women's sports and encouraged him to investigate the possible removal of the discipline from LA28's programme.

H’s rimming the wrong president anyway. It’s not going to be the Donald that decides on boxing in 2028. It’s the one the OC will elect in March Kremlev should be puckering up to.

World Boxing just added 8 new federations, bringing them up to 68 nations.  With March 2025 as the sport's deadline on whether it will have a place in 2028 or not, I think 68 nations, including USA and major countries, would make a case for World Boxing and render Kremlev and the IBA moot.

LA could give them the Kia Forum in Inglewood (18,500 capacity in a Boxing config) or the old Shrine Auditorium (6,300 capacity).

Didn't realize this topic existed and on behalf of the half of Americans who aren't f**king insane, we apologize to the rest of the world.

I don't want to go down the rabbit hole on Trump, but I will say this.  As much as Trump has expressed his contempt for the entire state of California, at least we know come 2028 that he'll want the Games of Los Angeles (or is he'll call them, "the greatest Olympics ever because of Trump) to be a smashing success so he can invite all his buddies to sit beside him.  So at least he'll advocate for the city and the state then.  And probably 5 minutes afterwards tell us what a hell hole LA was and how he'll never get over having to spend 2 weeks there

To be clear, because the title of this thread is deliberately blunt, I don't expect apologies from Americans who are anti-Trump and who bothered to vote, I feel sorry for you guys. But at the same time I'm loathe to waste too much energy caring about what America has fuckwittingly inflicted upon itself. I'm far more worried about the effect on things like climate change, Ukraine etc.

As for the Olympics, I would be far happier if Trump kept shitting on you rather than using it to promote himself, even if that means I politically fraught build up. Looking at it from the other perspective, if LA28 looks like it's leaning into MAGA then I'll avoid things like the ceremonies for sure.

A lot of what I've seen on social media is "what can we do now?" where we all feel so powerless.  And as much as I know people around the world feel bad for the Americans who oppose Trump and everything he stands for but we're simply outnumbered by everyone else who is buying into his BS, like you said I feel bad for the planet.  Because it's one thing for the generational effect it might have on the United States.  It's another to think about the consequences it might have for the rest of the planet and I really hope we don't look back 30 or 40 years from now and realized we cause irreparable harm because it sounded cool to elect a celebrity whose main selling point was that he hates the American political system and thinks he can rule by proclamation, laws and the constitution be damned.

So then the Olympics seems really small potatoes by comparison.  I doubt it will turn into a MAGA celebration considering how many of them flat out rejected anything and everything connected to Paris 2024 when their echo chamber told them about the opening ceremony.  Would be fun to see the organizers lean into "woke" just to piss them off, but who knows what the story will be by then.  There's also the matter of the fires, so we'll see what the long term fallout is from all that.  Hopefully it won't make too deep of a dent into the funding that we know the private sector needs to provide them in order to be successful.

could this thread be like, moved outside from the LA28 section? keep the LA28 section for LA28 things, while preserving the thread to continue the discussions and postings here

Should I move it to the Brisbane section?

create a SLC-UT 2034 section and move it there, it was Utah that voted red anyways, not us! 🫣

In all seriousness, I think it’s a legitimate thread, in an appropriate section.

We’ve long had a tradition of discussing the political aspects of various games. Both editions of Beijing and Sochi attracted lots of comment, and dedicated threads, on their problematic political issues. Ditto even the likes of London and Rio.

As the Trump regime hardens, it’s going to be inevitable that it’s going to colour many people’s feelings towards the games. It’s really unfortunate that the Orange Blob may overshadow the games prep, but it is what it is.

I’m not quite at @Rob2012’s stage yet, but if things continue the downward spiral I may well reach the point where I have to consider a personal boycott.

in that case, i just hope you all remember that:

  1. The majority of people from LA and California did not vote for the current administration, nor do we support it.
  2. Many of us here are at the mercy of the administration.
    1. In this regard, it's a bit irritating to see the smugness from those outside the USA and things like "you get what you get" - I understand the sentiment, but like I said, many of us did not vote for the dude and now we will have to face being the prime targets of the administration. Also like, this is how you drive people further away from your perspective.
      1. Of course, I'm not particularly saying that any of you here are doing that, but just keep it in mind pls

In the specific context of LA28: unfortunately we will be seeing LAOCOG and Casey Wasserman interacting with Trump in a way that seems "positive" - this is unfortunately necessary because we still rely on the Federal Government for our infrastructure (in this case, transportation as we have seen the past few years) and security. I hope that this does not turn you away from the Games, I'm sure that if there was an alternative to dealing with the FedGov, they would have gone with that route instead.

Anyways, f*** Trump, I myself will probably be sharing some contributions here later on ^_^
