It‘s a high-end Alps resort town. Already not a bargain without Olympics.

Anyway, I passed through it in summer about 10 years ago and it had a bit of a run-down charm to it, maybe looks better in winter, but I doubt you‘ll get good value for that large amount you have to pay.

Do we know if there will be any public transport getting into the resort town?

The train link has been stopped decades  ago, nearest station about 40 km.  There are direct express buses from Venice though (2h 45 min).

You’d really hope/expect they’d organise shuttle services to Cortina during the games. From where, though, is the question. With close to just a year to go, they really should be releasing that info if they want to sell tickets.

Indeed. If I actually try for tickets (2nd week is again conveniently in school holidays), that's likely Milan only (even if German chances in the sports there are, errrr...limited).

OTOH, Cortina (and the even further remote Antholz) is hosting every year big competitions with thousands of visitors over several days - they also get bused in and out I guess, so there should be a system to build on available already.

Looked to book something for Cortina and didn’t realise how expensive it is!!

Hi @Victorian, when I found a share accommodation with other volunteers in the same position as you ahead of the 2004 Athens Olympics, I found by googling a number of people offering share houses and accommodation for volunteers.

Ended up renting a room at a very reasonable price in a three bedroom apartment in Athens with three other lovely volunteers and really nice owner/landlord couple. It was the best experience and had the time of my life.

Suggest to try a few google searches “2026 volunteer accommodation” or similar and/or contact the volunteer recruitment team within the Milano Cortina organising committee, to see if they have any leads or offers from accomodation owners or other volunteers.

Best wishes with your search and hope you have the time of your life 🥰.

I have applied to volunteer and won't hear anything for still at least a few months so not sure where I will be positioned. I had Cortina as my first preference, then Milan.

Excellent.   I hope you get a position that you like.  Your posting mat be affected too by whether you speak more than one language, eg Italian.    At the Athens Olympics I could only speak English so at the Mens and Women Cycling Road Races I was placed on the field of play at the finish line with one other volunteer controlling accredited media on to the road at certain times during and after the race as most media reps can speak English. Similarly, for Time Trial and Triathlon.

Hi @Victorian just wondering if you have had any luck in finding accommodation, volunteer forums or any other means and/or sharing accommodation with other volunteers? 😀
