As pretty as this is, there is no way it will end up looking like this. Expect much bigger concourses (certainly in Games-mode where you'll have people attending different sessions and entering and exiting the park at the same time). Expect also much more space around the stadium for crowd flows and security checks etc.

The green space campaigners are going to be more pissed off when actual designs are realised imo. Perhaps in legacy mode this render is a little more true to how it could look but honestly, this render feels designed to keep the heat off when it comes to loss of green space rather than a realistic depiction of what's likely...

Brisbane Live is not dead. They are going to private sector to fund it.

Apologies I edited my post a few times and removed the part where I had that. Yes, will be built post 2032. Gabba will hold the cricket as its swansong and then private sector will build Brisbane Live post games

Yeah this original image doesn't factor in a lot of things, most importantly, the new 25,000 seat Aquatic stadium at Centenary pool in Spring Hill.

Incorrect. The Brisbane Live Arena is not at the Gabba location, it is next to the Gabba at the goprint site. Wlll be built for 2032.

Correct @Victorian.

@Olympic Fan Darcy   @yoshi

Premier David Crisafulli said yesterday there is keen interest from the private sector to build it and so the Queensland Government will immediately initiate a market led proposal process to build the Brisbane Live Arena on the Goprint site next to the Gabba.

So Brisbane Live Arena is highly likely to be be built and ready before the Games.

I'm still loathe to call people defending limited urban green space NIMBYs. I can't remember what the issues with indigenous rights are here, but I don't want to be dismissive of those either.

I was actually trying to separate the NIMBYs from the green space advocates. My natural sympathies would lean towards green space preservation. But the stadium is needed and it appears there weren’t many other viable options. I’ll delay judgement unbuilt we see how that all plays out.

As for he indigenous aspect, I was aware it was a significant site, known to them as Barrambin, but apparently it’s also a location for a number of massacre incidents. The Guardian’s starting to focus on the indigenous aspect:  Queensland plans to build 2032 Olympics stadium on significant Indigenous site

Truth is, there's a big democratic deficit here. "No new stadiums" was what was said pre-election. These people have every right to kick up a fuss, and these tensions will need to be resolved somehow. The only "rod" is the one Brisbane politicians keep making for their own backs.

The broken promise aspect seems to be the angle a lot of the headlines and comments the media’s focussing this morning. It was heavily drowned out though by Federal Budget coverage - it was brought down yesterday ahead of an election expected to be called within weeks.

Queensland has announced a 'regional' games. For those of you in Europe or the USA, this does not mean a leisurely 1-2 hour trip between cities, like heading up to Manchester from London for a football match and being back in your bed the same night, rather the distance between Brisbane and Cairns (a 'regional' city set to host some basketball and soccer matches) is the equivalent of London to Rome or New York City to Miami. Keep that in mind when you are planning your 'regional' "day" trips.

Finally, some sense prevailed.

Brisbane Arena $2.5 billion finally off the Olympic budget books. That allows the Stadium to be built along with a new pool venue plus a lot of other money into the other 35 venues. Assuming the federal government agree to changing the funding agreement. The agreement has been changed a few times already.

Spending $2.5 billion on Brisbane Arena was the funding problem right from the word go.

No reason the commonwealth should object now that a firm decision has been made. Election coming up, better to say we are going 50-50 with the state on building the Olympics up to the agreement amount. Let's move positively forward.

Brisbane Arena will go to above the Cross River Rail site (old GoPrint site). It will be much cheaper to build on that site.

Private enterprise involved with the government providing the land that will have Rail and bus on site.  A gold location for the future that has hospitality spots all over the place too.

Also, won't have to abide by IOC oversite. It should be finished by Olympic time. If so, a sport will be thrown there as a late sport venue change. Most likely basketball in my opinion.

Now they start the long process of a Victoria Park stadium. Lots could happen and time is defiantly running out.

I am not convinced the site (on the golf driving range and also looks like it has all those businesses being demolished) shown on the render is the end position of the stadium.

The soil and other tests most likely determine the final location.

It will be a long time before we see some actual plans on what the stadium will look like.

But in a case like this, it doesn't seem like there's much difference.

If you live nearby and your only local green space is this urban park, having a whole chunk of it disappear is an issue. Does that make you a NIMBY or a green space advocate?

This does look like the best current solution for the Olympics and the city given the timeline and financial constraints, but I've got a decent amount of sympathy for the NO camp on this one (I didn't like the mockery earlier in thread from AustralianFan for example). Nobody in politics who pushed the "no new stadiums" line, or indeed on the organising committee, can complain if there are protests and this stadium development doesn't go smoothly from this point. It's a situation they fermented.

Glad there is finally a plan to make the games look respectable but really highlights why a full bidding process needs to be restored to sort out most issues prior to selection.   Brisbane would never have been elected with the mess that was their previous plan.

What I find frustrating is people want to harp on about Brisbane 2032 still confirming venues however LA are still changing venues and Paris were changing their venue plan too after winning the bid. It happens!

There is a bit of a difference between switching around relatively minor venues and what's happened with Brisbane up to this point.
