After a triumphant Paralympic Games, Paris 2024 is about to say goodbye and celebrate an amazing period in it’s history on Sunday 8 September at Stade de France.

The organiser’s are talking about a Closing Ceremony in Electro Party mode

The highlight of the celebration of the athletes and their achievements will take the form of a tribute to Parisian nights, with the participation of 24 artists from the French electronic scene.

“Paris will celebrate the 4,400 Para athletes from the 168 Paralympic delegations at the Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony,  a 3-hour show running from 8.30pm to 11.30pm. After the protocol sequences, the athletes' parade and the passing of the flag from Paris 2024 to Los Angeles 2028, Paris 2024 will offer the public a final open-air party in the legendary setting of the Stade de France.”

The Biggest Nightclub in France night

This is how Paris 2024 organisers are described the Closing at Stade de France this Sunday night.

So, finally a Closing Ceremony with an extended party atmosphere. I’m happy about that.

Celebrating the last 6 trimphant weeks

Tony Estanguet said “Sunday's ceremony would be a celebration of the sportsmen and women who have lit up the Games over the last six weeks”.

24 DJs, one hour set, one track each

The DJs include Cassius, Kavinsky, Agoria, and electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre.

“The  hour-long set, which will see 24 DJs on stage, mixing in one track each, will be opened and closed by French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, 76. “

”He’s our father, our boss,” DJ Agoria told reporters in Paris.  “I’m happy he’ll be a sort of orchestra conductor.”

LA Mayor Karen Bass has headed back to Paris for the Handover to LA at Sunday’s Closing Ceremony.

Some other details are coming out about the LA handover at the Closing Ceremony:

Spoiler

It’s also reported that Broadway star Ali Stroker, singer Anderson Paak, jazz pianist Matthew Whitaker, and violinist and composer Gaelynn Lea will join Team USA Paralympians.   For the handover, there’ll also be will be from LA Samantha Bosco, Ezra Frech, and Jamal Hill.

Ali Stroker will sing the USA national anthem at Stade de France. Following this, “a cross over” will be made to Venice Beach (pre-recorded?) where Whitaker, Lea, and rapper and athlete Garnett Silver-Hall will feature musc and movement  and which will also include an “interactive musical performance” from Anderson Paak.

Am watching NBC's compressed coverage of Paralympic events and, of course, as US athletes are being interviewed, talk turns to their plans for LA28 -- and then Deloitte is also starting to run ads for LA28.  And then there are ads from the NO on Prop 33 campaign which is a YES FOR RENT CONTROL -- and says living in CA is quite expensive.  It's a bizarre, upside-down "ALice-in-Wonderland" experience!!

Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way”

Very nice melancholy post by the Paris 2024 organisers 😍

Amazing that CNBC broadcasts the closing ceremony live (although only two of the three hours, if I see that correctly?). Here in Germany, ARD will provide only a livestream in the "Das Erste Mediathek", on sportschau.de and in the Sportschau app, and will broadcast a summary of the ceremony from 11:05 pm to 12:15 am CEST.

Channel 4 are showing it live & in full - although they're doing that weird thing they did with the opening of listing it as two programmes even though it clearly isn't. Also it might be a surprise to you @Olympian2004 but I'd certainly hope & expect the broadcaster of the next host country would show the entire closing ceremony. I hope LA 28 will increase the profile of the Paralympics in the US :)

It probably will be: more events, bigger population, it is now called the USOPC (no longer the USOC), more US victories -- and, of course, it will be the 3rd Paralympics already on US soil: Atlanta '96 was first; Salt Lake '02 second; so LA28 will probably be the "charm."  So there will definitely be more broadcast hours for it.

unfortunately it is on CNBC which is not the main NBC channel, so it remains relatively inaccessible compared to the Olympic broadcasts 🙁

Yes, I'm going to the try-not-to-cry challenge.

For those who are in Paris, there are still available tickets for the ceremony, in all prices categories.

I'm a little surprised that there are still tickets in all categories, even the cheapest. I was able to get a ticket for the cheapest category (and I'm looking forward to tonight's ceremony, finally my first event at Paris 2024... for the very last day) but I thought that at least this category would eventually sell out, and it seems it's not the case.

That’s excellent. What a night of life-long memories ahead for you as Paris 2024 closes this amazing chapter.  There’s nothing like being there. Have a great night :)

I so wish I was still there but instead will be heading to LA.  Looking forward to seeing all that transpires at Stade de France tonight from afar. Hope you enjoy what will be an emotional night. Thanks again :)

I was ready to let go of Paris 2024 in the past few days, but now that the final day of this summer of Paris 2024 has arrived, I get a little lump in my throat. These were amazing weeks for sure and even if we won't be without the Olympic Games and the Paralympics for too long (Milan/Cortina are just 516 days away), I can't shake off the feeling that we won't see Games of the quality of Paris 2024 that quickly anymore. I think what Paris offered to the world this summer is truly a historical feat, and "simplement inoubliable"!

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games come full circle apparently: This is the forecast of Météo France for Saint-Denis, the location of the Stade de France, for tonight. Like this otherwise wonderful Paris sports summer started, it ends with rain...

The cycle of life. Hopefully the rain isn't as bad as that day.
