baron-pierreIV Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 OK, I'm thinking . . . A. For the Olys, "'28" will be some sort of mythical climate god and guardian of the Environment. B. For the Paras, Captain Ellay (femme) will be a handicapped super-heroine who can cure your broken spirits and punch away those negative thoughts on any given day!! You heard it first here on GB! Now, what mascot "gremlins" are brewing in your head? Quote
FYI Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 How about a giant palm tree!! That would be environment themed! But then again, maybe Brisbane might want that. That is if they don't have the giant pineapple as their mascot! Quote
FYI Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 Sochi 2014 already did a(n evil looking) cat as one of their mascots. But maybe L.A. can do another from of 'whatizit'! Quote

ejaycat Posted August 30 Report Posted August 30 I was trying to think of something really esoteric that hardly anyone would get, or would have to be explained, haha! But I like the flora/fauna thing. Maybe a coyote, which are native to southern California (and I feel I encountered them a lot a few months ago), and a Bird of Paradise, which is Los Angeles' official flower. Quote
Olympics2028 Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 This should be the mascot. https://www.nine.com.au/entertainment/viral/first-olympic-mascot/e168715d-d7ae-4706-8e38-fd6c44bb14b8 Quote But the Olympics website neglects to mention the first ever mascot of the Games: a black Scottish terrier named Smoky (or Smokey). Smoky was dubbed the "official" mascot of the Games by athletes who competed at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 1932. According to legend, Smoky wandered into the athletes' village one day (some tales hold he was born there) and quickly became so popular he was unofficially anointed the symbol of the Games. What's remarkable about Smoky is that he was the only living Olympic mascot — not just some guy running around in a plush costume. He might not have been an official official Olympics mascot, but he was certainly the greatest unofficial Olympics mascot. Going back to the future is way better than the oddball objects created as mascots well after 1932. lol. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted September 1 Author Report Posted September 1 /\/\ Like I didn't know that. Can you contribute something less IODITIC and inane?? Quote

Olympics2028 Posted September 7 Report Posted September 7 I bet a mascot that appeals to both kids and adults into "cute" will sell better than the strange, abstract objects used by many organizing committees for several years. The mascot for the 1984 games was sort of ehhh, but compared with the space alien thingamijigs of more recent Olympics, even that is preferable by default. Since it was an actual, living thing, Smoky of 1932 really fit the idea of "mascot." Quote
Olympics2028 Posted September 7 Report Posted September 7 ^ I just notice the idea of an Olympic mascot after 1932 didn't start up again for over 30 years, until the 1960s. Maybe the next LA games will go back to the original non-existence of what nowadays is more liable to end up being something like the symbol of Lisa Simpson servicing Bart. Quote
