The countdown is on for the Paris 2024 Paralympics Opening Ceremony in Place de la Concorde on 28 August starting at 20:00 CET.

The Paris 2024 organisers talk about an “unprecedented” Paralympics Opening Ceremony including the Atheletes Parade of Nations which will commence on the Champs-Elysees.

Will the same “Cauldron” be used from the Summer Games as it was located a short distance nearby to Place de la Concorde? Probably.

Looking forward to us watching this Ceremony together.

It has already been confirmed. The website to book a visit is still the same: https://lavasque.paris2024.org (I guess registration should only be available after the opening ceremony).

First time watching a Paralympic opening ceremony. Even though the budget will be lower of course, I hope it will be as crazy as the Olympic opening ceremony. (it was still funny when there were drag queens, a naked smurf, my entire party playlist at 3am and decapitated heads)

So... Is La Concorde being reconfigured from the stands that were there for urban sports during the Games? No spoilers for the ceremonies? Are the look of the games being changed in the venues? They'll have to remove the rings and bring the agitos in. As far as I remember, in the Paralympics there is sponsor advertising in the venues.

The agitos are already on the Arc de Triumph I think....and the Olympic Rings are on the Tour Eiffel....

It's been one week since the end of the Olympic Games now, and it felt already like forever - so I definitely need a new shot of Paris 2024.  And I think it is about time that the Champs Elysées get their turn in this important sports summer for France. I mean, they were not part of the Tour de France and neither of any of the Olympic events. I only saw the occasional picture of the Arc de Triomphe with the cauldron in the background. Forgive me if this is common knowledge already, but why did the Paris 2024 organisers choose to leave the Champs Elysées out of their venue plan up to the Paralympic opening ceremony?

Yes I understand they will leave the Paris logo un the look of the games at venues and simply replace the Olympic Rings with the Paralympics logo.

I understand the Olympic Rings on the Eiffel Tower are being taken down and in the process of being replaced by the Paralympics logo.

Adding to that, they will probably add some sponsor logos to the look of the Games - unlike the Olympic Games, advertising is allowed also directly around the fields of play at the Paralympics.

About that, i have to remind that Beijing 2022 did not have sponsor advertising at the field of play, so this might have changed from this cycle forward

The advertising has been getting a bit less in recent games I feel, and usually there isn't any at all in the ceremonies.   I don't really mind it when it's just a simple white logo that somewhat fits in with the look of the games.

 

Hoping the Paralympic Ceremonies somewhat rescue the disaster that were the Olympic Ceremonies.   The setting for the opening feels much better than they had for the Olympics - essentially a more traditional stadium configuration so at least there should be an atmosphere and the majority of events will take place in front of the crowd.

Yes.  also Place de la Concorde is quite close to the Cauldron

You understand wrongly. As stated previously the Olympic Rings will stay on the Eiffel Tower during the Paralympics, just like the Agitos were on the Arc de Triumph during the Olympics.

Interesting to see security perimeter for the Paralympics Opening Ceremony from what I think is a French government website.

The OC taking place on Place de la Concorde and on Avenue des Champs Elysées.

Paralympics OC will be live around Australia on Channel 9 as with the Olympics with full coverage for the 11 days of the Paralympics.

it appears NBC will show the ceremony on its main channel (surprising)... two days after it takes place (unsurprising) and edited to reduce the run time (even more unsurprising)... though it will be live on Peacock

I was on the Champs-Élysées earlier today (spending money at the megastore again). Sidewalks are now closed from Franklin Roosevelt, barriers are being installed up to Concorde (and everything is closed after the megastore). So, we have to walk on the Champs-Élysées (what a shame) but above all, it looks like the parade will start here. If that's the case, I didn't expect something that long: it's not all the avenue of course, but almost half of it.

Just as a matter of review (and since I never watched this before) and inevitably, for comparison's sakes with the upcoming Parisian edition, here was the Tokyo 2021 Para Opening Ceremony -- for those who haven't already seen it.  Let's keep it in mind vs. next week's Paris Opening.  Let's see if the French can do better.  

OMG!  Right there in the first 15 minutes, one sees the Balloon where French designer Lehanneur (or whatever his name is) GOT his idea for the Balloudron!!  So, again, the 2024 Baaloudron wasn't even an ORIGINAL CONCEPT! -- copied from the Tokyo Para Opening!!

To Sebastien or any of the Parisians on the ground-- so Place de la Concorde is where they held the BMX sports and the 3x3 Basketball in July? 

If so, then they've taken those away and reconfigured the whole Place for the Para Opening venue??

Yes. They're reconfiguring the venue for the opening ceremony (I was looking for pictures of the construction site but couldn't find any), and then they'll demonstrate all the facilities. Hopefully it doesn't rain this time, ahem.

Hate to burst your balloon Baron (or whatever your name is), but wasn't the balloon cauldron actually inspired by the first balloon flight that took place in 1783 in the Tuileries Gardens, which in fact happened thanks to the Montgolfier brothers and their experiments with making hot air balloons a thing?
