GBModerator Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 An open letter. I know you've already made up your mind. I know the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already set and sealed the sports that will be staged in 2028. But just in case there is any wiggle room at all, please consider this. The post Dear LA 2028: Will you please reconsider bringing breaking back to the Olympics? appeared first on GamesBids.com. View the full article Quote
FYI Posted August 12, 2024 Report Posted August 12, 2024 Quote The entire roster of athletes at the Paris Olympics approaches 11,000 across 32 sports. The b-boys and b-girls breaking tournaments are comprised of only 16 athletes each for a total of 32, and maybe even less if you exclude that 'unique' Australian b-girl performing under the name RAYGUN. When I first read that Breaking was going to be introduced at the Paris 2024 Olympics, I thought, why in the world.. It would make much more sense to have it in L.A.'28, since Breaking originated in the U.S. anyway. You bring up some interesting points. And since it looks like you were there, you had more of an on-hands look at all what was going on. I found breaking to be at least somewhat entertaining to watch, at least on TV. It certainly wouldn't be my first choice of events to watch, though, if I had to make a choice. But if the impact of still including it at L.A.'28 would relatively be very small (from the sounds of it here), then why not, I suppose. Especially if it can make a difference to some younger audiences out there. Again, it makes much more sense for a U.S. Games anyway, & especially in such an urban U.S. city like L.A. Quote I know organizing the Games is complex and daunting. I know the ‘breaking at LA 28’ ship has already sailed. So if there is absolutely nothing you can do to add this shining beacon to the Los Angeles Games, perhaps you can pass this note on to Brisbane 2032. I hope they'll know what to do. You mean like still keep 'unique RAYGUN' away? Quote

Actually, in the finest Aussie tradition of taking the piss (taking the Mickey) out of anything, especially the Olympics, she’s actually being embraced down here, almost as the Face of the Games. Our newest Bradbury or Eddie the Eagle. I’m calling it now - don’t be surprised to see her at the Brisbane opening. Edited August 12, 2024 by Sir Rols Quote

The more I look into the whole situation, the more I kinda love her. I hope at the very least she's in Brisbane's Torch Relay. Quote

Brekkie Boy Posted August 17, 2024 Report Posted August 17, 2024 Think I posted in the wrong thread but so glad there are no plans for this in LA. It's inclusion in Paris was always questionable and the reality was even worse than I feared - seen more talent in "couples choice" on Strictly. It had zero sporting merit at all, unlike other performance based judged events. Quote
