(I only realize now that technically, I too contributed in my very little modest way to the success of these Games. I should perhaps think about asking Tony Estanguet for a small bonus and some thanks, I love money)

You actually did work with the Games?   How did you manage with all the hours you also spent here PLUS 1,000 lengthy posts?  Did you teleport??

So yes I worked during the Games, but not directly for the Games; I work indirectly for the company that had a contract with COJOP concerning certain missions (it's complicated). I should have maybe specified it from the beginning, my first message was a bit ambiguous. But to put it simply, in the context of my work, I happened to help members of Olympic delegations and accredited media as part of my work.

(Ah eh otherwise well it happens to me to look at the forum very regularly on my phone during my break times or during my times when I am "free during my work" and to post messages. Quite simply. But rest assured, my manager only compliments me on my work)

I am actively preparing for the first ones in September, of course, like any good Frenchman

Lol! Good to see France is back in training already for its real national sport!

Tony Estanguet who preferred to put breaking as an additional sport rather than throwing projectiles and molotovs where we had real chances of medals, really this choice of breaking is incomprehensible...

the French approach with poor access control to venues

With the exception of the very first match at the Parc des Princes, I did not see the slightest problem with the fluidity of access to the venues. Even for the opening ceremony on the Seine, it was smooth. Long, certainly, because from what I saw there were about as many checks required as to enter a military base (but that's logical given the scale of the ceremony), but smooth.

Yeah, I didn’t see any reporting that access control was any type of issue. Especially considering it was such a fear for the games after the Rugby WC and the earlier football (was it Euros or Champions League?) snafus. I thought at the time those were actually great learning experiences and showed it was something to focus on. That’s what such test events are for. And it seems the French indeed learned.

Lines to get into the venues are a feature of a games, especially post 9/11. The worst lines I ever encountered were trying to get into the Georgia Dome in ‘96 (that was excruciating, but also probably had a bit to do with the fact POTUS was there), and trying to get into one of the Fan Zones in central London (Regents Park, I think).

Didn’t Macron already award you all (volunteers, police and essential workers) a gold medal?

Yeah, I saw that. It will take a bit more, however, to buy me off

Way for Macron to boost the French medal tally!

That’s nothing. I won the Olympic Order when Samaranch awarded it to the people of Sydney.

i love the french. they work like an hour a day tops and their managers weep over their tireless work ethic as they plan their 9 week vacations and take retirement at 43.

For those who don't follow the dubious InsidetheGames.com website, here are nonetheless the 10 Major, Gross SNAFUS of Paris 2024 so far-- which at the time of the old Falangist Juan Antonio Samaranch, Sr., would have gained them a FAILING grade.  These really make them much worse IMHO than Atlanta 1996.

Yes, and there were others. It creates an unnecessary security risk to have this build up of people outside in the heat, because you have only assigned 4 police to check all bags into Concorde. It doesn't work - and one is glad there were no serious incidents.

Now the sport is really done.

The Paras were an more golden experience. While you were sleeeping, an Brazilian got a medal. While you were writing at the board in a Art Class, another one, gold. Lunch? Medal. Cozy in home? Even more medals. In the psychologist? Two golds in 10 minutes. Scrolling bluesky after twitter got shot down because Musk is a prick? Our equestrian hopes were dashed by a bee. This was indeed the best games ever for us, in a stark contrast for the Olympics: where those lacked in golds, our Paralympic athletes gave us in abundance, and i thank them for that. Glad that we sacrificed that X so the media gods (Globo) let us see the IPC streams legally as well at least; their coverage is locked in a pay-tv channel for the Paras but it has indeed good quality, it was just that having no free option was sacrilegious. That could be solved if they didn't think their free-tv channel schedule as holy and passed something more than the Blind Football semifinal and some bulletins. At least it was something, but given that is by far the biggest one in Brazil to the point i feel some people forget that remote controllers exist... yeah.

But, now, i have to congratulate you Paris. You did it all your way, and about you i can only feel sad that the IPC still needs to have adverts at the field of play. From the start of this adventure, at the lighting of the olympic flame in Olympia to the end of the Paraympics of Stoke Mandeville, thank you.

10/10, please keep making the games wide open!

incoming (probably very cheesy) verdict:

To the people of Paris, and France - thank you. Your city and country have delivered what may very well be one of the best Olympic and Paralympic Games ever. Everything about Paris 2024 has been amazing, it’s kind of hard to put it into words. Like, ceremonies outside of the stadium? Historical sites turned into stadiums for sport? I’ll echo what many have said during these Games - Paris wasn’t just the host city, it was the arena itself.

The sport was incredible too - watching the US win gold after gold, watching athletes who perhaps did not do well in Tokyo finally get their moment in the spotlight. Seeing countries win their first medal, some of which were even gold, was incredibly emotional. This energy continued well into the Paralympic Games, where countries could continue their Paris 2024 success - or perhaps finally start their own there. I know for me personally it was incredibly nice finally hearing the Mexican anthem be played during the Paralympics on my TV with my parents after a not-so-great Olympic performance.

Now, speaking as someone from LA who has followed these Games since the bidding process, it’s sort of bittersweet to see Paris 2024 come to an end. Paris started their Olympic journey with us a decade or so ago. Our cities, though rivals, seemed to respect one another. This paid off when we both finally became three time Olympic cities, together, on 13 September 2017. Paris, or LA could have easily rejected this idea and gone to a vote, but neither of them didn’t. So in a way, thank you Paris for making it easier for us to once again become an Olympic city 😄 (and hopefully, we made it easier for you as well!)

Today, your great Olympic journey ends, while ours continues. It won’t be the same without you running together with us, but I hope that our city can make everyone who was in that room on 13 September and across the world proud, just like you did.

Thank you, Paris, and may we all meet in LA peacefully in 2028.

That was a fun and enjoyable six weeks of sport. Now that it is really done, this has been the best Olympic & Paralympic Games since London 2012 after a string of trouble-plagued Games from 2014-2022.

Australia and America needs to improve for the Paralympics after finishing an Olympics success

Come to think of it, the only time the Olympic and Paralympic Games were pretty much trouble-free between 2014 and 2022 was Pyeongchang 2018, or do I miss something there? I didn't realise that until now. It was about time that especially the Olympic Games get their old glory back, and Paris did absolutely deliver that indeed.

Pyeongchang 2018,

PyeongChang had US-North Korea political tensions during its buildup then but nonetheless these were the only Olympic and Paralympic Games  that went without incident during that period.
