The Handover was kinda what I expected.  Totally unimaginative -- except for an aging movie star trying to prove he's still young and macho.  (I wonder who covered the insurance for him since he proposed this thing to LA28??)

I wonder how much that crappy little thing cost?  My guess is probably no more than $3 million.  And who were the 2 or 3 other "LA athletes" used?  Never mind - probably wouldn't matter one way or another.

thats her artist name 😭 H.E.R.

girl i just know a CANADIAN ain't talking about "someone who actually loves America"

I have great admiration and respect for America, I’m not like the so called typical Canadian.

The fact for example of little things like the existence of the Toronto Raptors or Toronto Blue Jays is only possible because of the US having the best leagues in the world in those sports.

I forgot if it was Snoop, but one of the artists said "Hello Long Beach!" or something gahaha I cackled. I know very few people who wear being from Long Beach as a badge of honor

I love Long Beach.  Lots of good food to be had there.  And I love the vibe, not pretentious like the Westside of LA, which is full of transplants anyway.  I think it's the transplants that give LA the bad rap.

That was the worst handover ever. I’m tired of these made for tv segments. There should’ve been more representation and entertainment in the stadium. Poor decisions made by the organizers. This shows how bad of an idea the 2-stadium ceremony is! They’ve lost the plot!

I was really disappointed by the handover. Since I was there, I was excited by the Tom Cruise thing, but it was short, and as soon as he left, we got 15 minutes on video of american singers on the beach. We did have video as well in Tokyo for the Paris handover, but it was due to Covid back then. What is LA's justification for the use of video? People in the stadium got bored quickly, were checking their phones, and many started to leave at that point. I wish we could go back to proper handovers like we had in Beijing, London and Rio (my favourite).

A 15-minute show with artists doing a concert... hmmm... that reminds me of something... Come on, I'm going to be deliberately mean: do Americans know that they can try to do something other than SuperBowl concerts? Well, we'll see how it goes in the end. But I'm afraid that in the end the handover segment will look like a SuperBowl concert dressed in Olympic colors.

Honestly yes. And still more exciting than what Paris strung together.

This entire Olympics focused too much on TV and little on in person experience. Opening, closing, and handover.

It wasn't terrible. The Tom Cruise bit actually got the stadium going crazy. The shot of the Hollywood sign with the Olympics rings also got the stadium going.

Beyond that we were forced to watch a pre recorded video on two small screens at Stade de France. The folks in the beach back in LA got a much better experience than those of us in France.

For all the hopes I had for Paris. The opening and closing were a let down.

LA already feels more exciting even if the handoff had sound issues. It looked more cinematic than Paris....and LA doesn't have the Eiffel Tower or Grand Palais

LA28 Paralympic Handover information has been released:

https://la28.org/en/newsroom/la28-announces-paralympic-handover-talent.html

Quote

"Tony Award-winning actress and Broadway star Ali Stroker, eight-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Anderson .Paak, acclaimed jazz pianist Matthew Whitaker and violinist and Broadway composer Gaelynn Lea will join Team USA Paralympians and LA-natives Samantha Bosco, Ezra Frech and Jamal Hill for the Handover, which will be presented live on CNBC and Peacock."

"Once the Paralympic flag is passed to LA, acclaimed stage performer Ali Stroker will kick-off the Handover, singing the U.S. national anthem live at the Stade de France during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Closing Ceremony."

"Following Stroker’s performance in Paris, the LA28 Paralympic Handover will spotlight music and movement, highlighting Paralympic and adaptive sports against the backdrop of Los Angeles’ iconic Venice Beach coastline. A cast including acclaimed jazz pianist Matthew Whitaker and violinist and singer-songwriter Gaelynn Lea and rapper, songwriter and athlete Garnett Silver-Hall will set in motion the celebration that will also feature global superstar Anderson .Paak in an interactive musical performance."

".Paak will be joined by adaptive skaters who have pushed forward the world of adaptive skateboarding and wheelchair motocross (WCMX), including Oscar Loreto Jr., Kanya Sesser and Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham. Actress Lauren Ridloff from “The Walking Dead” and Marvel’s “Eternals” will also be featured in the Handover."

"Team USA will be represented by LA-hometown Paralympians including Para-cyclist, two-time bronze medalist and Paris 2024 gold medalist Samantha Bosco, two-time Para track and field athlete and two-time Paris 2024 gold medalist Ezra Frech and Para-swimmer and bronze medalist Jamal Hill will also play a central role in storytelling behind LA28’s Paralympic Handover."

“The LA28 Paralympic Handover aims to capture a diverse collection of artistry and voices all set in LA’s unique cultural backdrop,” said Winston, Fulwell 73 Productions Co-Founder. “We’re thrilled to feature a remarkable group of individuals, each with their own incredibly inspiring stories and dreams. We hope the Handover celebration resonates proudly within the Paralympic community, while inviting a global audience to take part in the LA28 story.”

It seems like it will have a more artistic tone to it compared to the Olympic handover, though it also seems like it will be (pre)recorded from LA as well. Pretty excited regardless 🙂

And the handover (as well as all the protocol parts) will take place before the "artistic" part, the back-to-back of the French Touch. (the overwhelming argument that made me decide to buy a ticket for the closing ceremony without hesitation, I must admit)
