AWFUL.  I hate that "American Idol"-type rhapsodizing.  That's NOT how these classic songs were written.  Nah - they're not using "AtB" and I hope not her either.

MAJOR HANDOVER NEWS:

The handoff of the Summer Olympic Games from Paris to Los Angeles just got a lot louder. Performances by Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are expected to be featured in the Closing Ceremony of the Paris games on Sunday, multiple sources told Variety.

All three artists will be seen from Los Angeles in a mix of pre-taped and live performances. Producer Ben Winston, who is no stranger to live music events as the producer of the Grammy Awards and CBS’ 2021 “Adele: One Night Only” special, is coordinating with French producers of the Closing Ceremony.

At the Closing Ceremony, the musical performances from Los Angeles are expected to follow a much-hyped stunt from Tom Cruise, news of which leaked last week. Cruise will jump on his motorcycle for an average day of death-defying tricks in France, before tossing to a prerecorded package that will see him parachute down next to the iconic Hollywood sign. The L.A.-affiliated musicians will take it from there.

Charli XCX has also quote-reposted a Pop Crave tweet announcing this, saying "... you wanna guess ;)", which could be an indication that she too could also perform.

A 15-minute show with artists doing a concert... hmmm... that reminds me of something... Come on, I'm going to be deliberately mean: do Americans know that they can try to do something other than SuperBowl concerts? Well, we'll see how it goes in the end. But I'm afraid that in the end the handover segment will look like a SuperBowl concert dressed in Olympic colors.

^^ Its modern American culture. What did you expected.

Look what it did to the UCL preceremonies ever since they started to partner with Pepsi.

I'm not expecting much from this handover (specially considering the Atlanta one was pretty terrible back in the day) but maybe we'll be surprised with something. I wonder if they'll reveal the mascot like in 1992.

I'm glad they thought to use Los Angeles artists.  They should've thrown in Beck as well (I'm a huge Beck fan, have been to several of his concerts).  :P  Although I can see him saying "**** the Olympics."

I'm hoping they use LA artists for the '28 opening ceremonies too.

WTF, this website censors words??  What is this, the American FCC?  MAN this website has definitely changed since the last time I used to post on it often.

Source? There's literally no basis for this other than the fact that Fulwell 73 worked with them before. But they've also worked with Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and Adele - though I don't think they're gonna be part of the handover 😭

Oh gosh I can't stand ANY of those people.

Adele sings like her pussy hurts.  Ed Sheeran sings like his pussy hurts too.

That friggin' Eilish CAN'T sing if her life depended on it.  Just another addled junkie.  Am not holding my breath for this Turn-over segment!  But I guess what else can you feature in a 2024 T-O segment to a more modern city than the outgoing host?

I was hoping to be a little surprised. Now yes, finally what they do is exactly what we expected from LA. Hollywood stars, world-famous singers...

It's just that it gives the impression that they are content to fill the obvious checklist that everyone imagines for LA. I miss that little something of surprise, astonishment, originality. But hey, we'll judge on Sunday night, it's still way too early to judge the handover when we haven't even seen it yet.

After the Closing Ceremony, LA28 is inviting America to watch the world’s biggest beach party on NBC and Peacock.”

In addition to the Closing Ceremony, later that evening, NBC and Peacock will feature Autodesk’s “Countdown to LA28” presented by Visit California.

The LA28 Countdown will be hosted by five-time Olympic medalist, tennis champion and entrepreneur Venus Williams and will feature extended musical performances, a sneak peek into the LA28 Games, plus behind-the-scenes footage of the LA28 Handover. Special guests include Olympic legends Carl Lewis and Sugar Ray Leonard, plus USA Water Polo Hall of Famer Brenda Villa and Paralympic swimmer and five-time medalist Rudy Garcia-Tolson.

regarding the content of the handover itself:

"Set to feature additional surprise guests, the celebration is produced by Fulwell 73 Productions, under the creative direction of Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Ben Winston."

“The LA28 Handover promises to showcase the heartbeat of LA — which like the Olympics — is where people come from all over the world to pursue their dreams,” said Winston. “We hope to showcase a collection of Los Angeles stories – featuring the city’s people, creativity, music and of course sport, all wrapped up with a little Hollywood magic – to invite the world into the LA28 Games.”

Sounds great.   A proud moment for LA and very real now as the countdown clock to the 2028 Opening Ceremony starts ticking down from tonight.

there is more footage on @afram1978 's story on Instagram, looks like we will get our beach scene after all! though i'm unsure if its for the handover itself or the Countdown to LA28 special that'll air after the closing ceremony.

Didn't that start in Tokyo with the Paris handover, of showing scenes on TV for the next host city, because of Covid (even though the Trocadero was packed)? IDK why they thought to continue with that instead of acting out an L.A. scene right there on stage (like in previous handovers. I still remember the double-decker buses in Beijing for London's handover). Probably would've much better than what the L.A. handover actually was.

Quick review of this handover: it was what we could expect. Los Angeles decided to play it safe by limiting itself to filling the checklist that everyone imagined.

So, we can't be disappointed. I rather liked the first few minutes despite Tom Cruise, less the concert. But that's because I'm not a big fan of this kind of very American shows anyway.

I still preferred the Paris handover to the LA one, because I think that the Paris one had that little extra soul that LA was perhaps lacking.
