Wonder if they'll be lit simultaneously in the Opening Ceremony There has been several cauldrons for multiple winter Games: Innsbruck 1976 (2 cauldrons at Bergisel stadium), Calgary 1988 (MacMahon Stadium, Calgary Tower, several mini-cauldrons in co-host cities), Albertville 1992 (cauldrons in every city/village hosting a venue), Salt Lake City (cauldrons at both Rice Eccle Stadium and medal plaza). 1 Quote

BigVic Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 The 2008 cauldron was leaked on Brazilian TV during the parade of athlets as the Virgin Islands entered the Bird's Nest. For the rest of the world, it was hidden from public view until the moment Li Ning lit the cauldron. Quote

My money is on a larger version of the blue torch relay cauldron. Paris did the same thing -- an exact replica of the relay cauldron just attached to the bottom of a balloon. 1 Quote

Wonder if they'll be lit simultaneously in the Opening Ceremony Well, first time for a split-simultaneous Opening Ceremony--at 2 distant locations. CORRECTIONS: Helsinki 1952 had TWO cauldrons lit at the stadium on Opening: a small one on the stadium floor w/ Paavo Nurmi; and then the flame was carried by 4 runners to Hannes Koleimainen who was at the top of the Tower! And both flames burned until the end of the OC. -- So that would be the first TWO flames burning simultaneously for the OC. STOCKHOLM 1956 - The "fake" Equestrian-only Olympics. There were 2 cauldrons lit at the OC--one each on the two towers of the stadium. Other 2-cauldron situations: - Tokyo 1964. There was a mini-copy of the main Tokyo Stadium cauldron in Karuizawa, the site of Eventing (in, of all places, Nagano Prefecture). - Moscow 1980; Tallinn had its own cauldron. Closing Ceremonies of Grenoble 1968, Lake Placid 1980, Sarajevo 1984 -- had that second, lately lit indoor cauldron to snuff out! As for 2 caldera being lit within the SAME OC (but not at the simultaneous moment), let's give that to Vancouver 2010. And of course for 3 caldera, it was the first Youth Winter Games in Innsbruck 2012 which used THREE caldera, sitting side by side, at their OC. LA28 will, I believe, have 2 cauldrons: a "show" one at SoFi and the main one at Memorial. Edited January 15 by baron-pierreIV Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 (edited) Ooops, double posting. Sorry, I thought I was lighting TWO cauldrons!! 🤪 Edited January 15 by baron-pierreIV Quote

Citizen-Seth Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Well…at least it’s better than Beijing’s? 🤷♂️ I’ll reserve judgement until I see it in person…but judging from the photos this gets a massive meh from me. Quote
Rei Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 The circle nest looks interesting (inspired by one of Da Vinci's works) but those mechanical legs are just clumsy. Not armonia at all. I hope this is not the final and complete version but most AI elaboration, otherwise.. Quote
BigVic Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Turin's cauldron was unveiled just before Christmas 2005 Quote
sebastien1214 Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 But why reveal what's supposed to be the highlight of the ceremony weeks in advance?! Since it's already ruined, at this point they might as well just give us the media guide for the ceremony tomorrow. 1 Quote
PikyoK Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 That's so cool! I wonder how they're gonna run from the stadium to the cauldron in Milan? Quote

I like the idea of it opening when the flame is about to be lit, and closing when the flame is put out. Hopefully the final IRL version will look better than the one on this picture. Quote
yoshi Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Any way of getting the photos or animation that isn't Instagram? It won't play Quote

Tatsh Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 With the cauldrons revealed, it's time to know how will they be lit. Quote

Ikarus360 Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Not bad. Its basically a version 2.0 of Rio's cauldron. Kind of reminds me of Doha's 2006 cauldron as well. 1 Quote

Am I missing something? Did they only make this video because of previous leaks? To me it doesn't look like they wanted to it to be secret. I think we have to see how the ceremony plays out before deciding if the early reveal was worth doing or not. I'll keep an open mind. 1 Quote
Shiruba98 Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 I wonder if there's any pics of the cauldrons being built or being tested? Quote
