How on earth does it fall to a rosbif to create this of all threads?!?!?! I was looking in the section for reaction to yesterday - expecting to find somewhere where @sebastien1214 @Cyriln @Michelle & others still celebrating rugby victory - & now a second gold almost as I write! Anyway, here's a space for what is already a rather successful home team :)

Ahahaha I'm really sorry but I have little time at the moment to make long posts with the research work needed behind it. I was planning to start the thread a few days ago but the time it took to compile all the information demotivated me so much. (yes since I wanted to make a long post that exposed the chances of our delegation sport by sport but I think I was as ambitious as our ceremony...)

Lol - I was just surprised to not find it, so I had to make something up before you get too many medals to keep up with

I haven't even seen a single French medal because every time we won one I was working! I feel like these Olympics are going to go by too quickly for me...

Hahah! I was too busy watching the Olympics and celebrating Belgian (lack of) and French wins.

the Rugby final was avidly watched in my home. We had many here watching … lots of men and beers! Joyous celebrations.

A proper moment that. First home gold and in front of 80k people. France really wanted that. Not good our the battle in the medal table, but hard not to love moments like that.

Antoine Dupont was sensational! I understand about medal table rivalries, but I think it’ll be interesting to see if France can top GB this Olympics. I fully expect it. But since London the British have become European leaders.

It was a great moment, you could almost feel through the TV how much France needed that, to properly get the games sparked after opening day. Plus there really are very few atmospheres in sport like the Stade de France when Les Bleus are winning well. One of the moments of the games for sure :)

I’ve been meaning to ask you, are you going to get a chance to attend any events in person during the games?

And where has @Cyriln got to? Having a great time, I hope.

It's not planned. I'm working this summer, I'll be in Paris on August 5th but I won't have time to attend any events; I might visit the Parc des Nations but it's not even certain that I'll have time. It's super frustrating for me to miss the Olympics when we only have them once a century and I'll never have another chance in my life to see them again in my country after 2024. (Please, dear German friends, get them in 2040). But I knew full well that it would be complicated for me to attend.

On the other hand, I'm moving to Paris at the beginning of September. It's not impossible that I'll attend some Para events. It'll be a bit of a consolation prize...

Okay - can we start by talking about Léon Marchand? Beyond the images of his monumental victory that you all saw (you better), just this video of the crazy atmosphere on a Sunday morning (!!!) for the series (!!!)

In our gold medals, let's obviously mention Rugby 7s. A few years ago, we were a really minor nation in rugby 7s, I mean so minor that we were getting spanked by Papua New Guinea (my respects to them of course).

In the last 1-2 years, we have transformed into a big nation in rugby 7s. Antoine Dupont who proves that in the big events he responds: he may have some advice to give to Mbappé. How proud to see a rugby country win at home.

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, in XC, finally wins Olympic gold. A huge champion of her sport who lacked the supreme consecration, it finally happened. So happy for her.

In our silver medalists, I will start by congratulating Auriane Mallo-Breton and Yannick Morel, already for their performance; Auriane almost won gold; but especially because of the difficult context of French fencing which is only just emerging from a very serious crisis that has shaken it in recent months.

In judo, Luka Mkheidze won silver, after winning bronze in Tokyo. And he came close to winning gold. Maybe in LA in 4 years?

Still in judo, in our bronze medallists, saluting the great performances of Shirine Boukli and Amandine Buchard who represent the new generation of French judo (well, this is not really the case for Amandine to be honest!) and who went on to win very nice bronze medals.

Unfortunately, in terms of our disappointments, the French women's archery team was knocked out right from the start when we had a real chance of winning medals. It's a hard blow, especially in terms of the resources invested since Tokyo in this discipline.

There you go, I've caught up a bit. See you tomorrow for a new report?

And I thought we had a good day  Do Japan front-load big time or do they have a genuine chance of staying at the top?

I think Japan has really good teams this year.  Thier M & W's indoor volleyball teams are ranked #2 and I think #4.  Did you see their 5'6" player in Men's basketball?  He was pretty effective for being the token "shrimp" of the match.

How’s the enthusiasm levels in France now? Has Olympic fever really sparked? Looks like it from the crowd images.

I think the opening ceremony changed a lot of things. Until then, there was a lot of criticism about the Games, not necessarily a good atmosphere for enthusiasm, even until the day before the ceremony. Especially with the images of central Paris under lockdown.

But the opening ceremony was a huge success, more than 82% of the market share on television, and since Saturday France 2/3 have systematically led the audiences for the day. And I haven't seen the slightest criticism of the Games since the ceremony.

In the Harris Interactive survey that was conducted the day after the opening ceremony, 77% of French people have a positive image of the Olympics. Before July 26, we barely reached 60%. I think that says a lot.

Hey! Yeah, I'm not really here since last Friday. You know, Olympic-ing... I'm used to binge-watch Olympics but this time, I'm binge-watching AND going to events everyday, didn't took time to come here.

As you should be. Glad to hear you’re making the most of a home Olympics. Don’t miss anything just to come here - but do let us know your experiences when it’s all over.

Looks amazing, it must be the best place to be on the planet right now. I know Paris would be pretty high on that list anyway but it's really shining even though the TV - I bet you won't have to wait until 2124 for number 4 :)
