Sir Rols Posted August 4, 2024 Report Posted August 4, 2024 Good on you Peaty, someone had to say it Adam Peaty says he may retire … and hits out at ‘cheating’ Chinese swimmers 1 Quote
yoshi Posted August 4, 2024 Author Report Posted August 4, 2024 He has a knack of saying what everyone is thinking Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 5, 2024 Report Posted August 5, 2024 Wait what, I've just read Molly Caudery is out?! That's a shock, what a shame Quote
yoshi Posted August 5, 2024 Author Report Posted August 5, 2024 Yeah that was a shock & a blow. I suspect she came in too high, way higher than everyone else came in Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 5, 2024 Report Posted August 5, 2024 (edited) The velodrome opens and of course GB wins a gold Edited August 5, 2024 by Rob2012 Quote
yoshi Posted August 5, 2024 Author Report Posted August 5, 2024 KEELEY! Finally, she's gone one better 1 Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 9, 2024 Report Posted August 9, 2024 I'll be so happy if KJT pulls this off, will be one of my favourite medals of these Games if she wins. Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 9, 2024 Report Posted August 9, 2024 OK, very unlikely it's going to happen now...but you never know. Quote
yoshi Posted August 9, 2024 Author Report Posted August 9, 2024 We'll just have to have an unexpected climbing gold instead 1 Quote

Nafi always find a way to pull out something amazing when necessary. However, it should be noted that KJT is the only woman to ever beat Thiam in open competition (minus injury issues). So while it’s unlikely, we can’t rule it out. Quote
Scotguy II Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Not sure what to think of Team GB at Paris 2024. Lots of medals yes, but the least gold medals since Athens 2004 There were plenty of gold medal potentials that despite all of the hype failed to deliver. Yes silver and bronze are good too and lots more of those than usual but i just feel that there should have been more golds for Team GB. they just didn't push themselves that tiny bit more than other countries to take those golds that looked like they should have got. Michelle Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Britain finish below France and the Netherlands. I can imagine this will be seen as disappointing overall. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Right now, Great Britain has only three medals less than in Rio and only one medal less than in Tokyo and even its home Games in London. I see that you won less gold medals than in the previous three Games, but if anyone perceives that as a major disappointment in GB, I would gladly like to trade places with them. The UK has become a true powerhouse in Olympic sports. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Sorry, I missed the weightlifting bronze for Emily Campbell. So it is now a draw with the medal totals of Tokyo and London. Quote
Michelle Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 The Brits are like the Americans, they measure a successful games in terms of gold medals. Quote

Tho I see the USA shows medals won as their metric for the medal table. I think that’s unique to them. I see why they do it … 🤣 Quote
yoshi Posted August 11, 2024 Author Report Posted August 11, 2024 They use whatever puts them top lol. Although we might be tempted to use their system this time As Olympian says, even if the fall in golds looks disappointing it's still a pretty strong performance - a little fading should've been expected as the last of the 2012/16 generation go. It maybe feels worse because a lot of the ones who were most hyped for golds didn't get there. The BBC curse was real . But we saw a good number of the less heralded athletes step up, & that's always good. My GB moment of the Games - Bryony Page finally taking the gold after seeing her come so close in Rio and Tokyo. Very pleased that she's been chosen as one of our flagbearers for the closing. Quote
sebastien1214 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Big thanks to the UK for not ruining the party now that we are definitively the 1st European nation. You can now get back on track for 2028 and then, we were only interested in 2024 anyway. Quote
yoshi Posted August 11, 2024 Author Report Posted August 11, 2024 Congratulations - we don't mind coming behind great hosts. Remember though that it's not unusual to do even better in the Games after hosting... Quote

Remember though that it's not unusual to do even better in the Games after hosting... The worst part is that in the second week we had a fairly mediocre % of medals compared to what was expected. We could have exceeded 70 medals, and we should have even had more gold medals and fewer silver medals. So, on the one hand, we have a bit the same feeling as you. Quote
TorchbearerSydney Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Q: Congratulations - we don't mind coming behind great hosts. Remember though that it's not unusual to do even better in the Games after hosting... What about coming behind Australia? Quote

(not really angry lol ) Well we all come where we come, you had an amazing Games. Especially the Fox family! With Brisbane coming & London fading I think you might hold the Ashes for some time now... This is what happens when you host, call it part of the legacy if you will - also the great venues that were built for these games will help. Quote

Germany and Italy will want to host asap, for these exact reasons. I find it bewildering how Germany doesn’t do better at the summer games. Quote
