I just looked up the 1896 medal table, and the countries' records since, and it looks like from 1920 onwards it was only Britain and USA who could say that. 1980 obviously killed the US' claim. Thank God for Sirs Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent. Quote
Sir Rols Posted July 30, 2024 Report Posted July 30, 2024 Another interesting trivia fact. Yesterday was the first time God Save the King had been played at an Olympics medal ceremony since 1948. Nice job on the relay! Quote

Knowing that the original anthem was a song about Louis XIV's anal fistula, I would find it hilarious if the British anthem were to be played at Versailles if the British won one of the equestrian events. Wikipedia doesn’t mention that. My Mum always used to point out it also used to be the same tune for he German anthem till 1918. And Wiki says it was also the same for Czarist Russia. Rob2012 Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 Andy Murray/Dan Evans: I've pulled off Team GB's most incredible, come-from-behind-when-all-looked-lost win of the Olympics. Tom Pidcock: Hold my beer Alex Yee: No, hold my beer Women's quad sculls: Lads, hold our beers. https://x.com/thefuffa/status/1818614709588762818 Quote
yoshi Posted July 31, 2024 Author Report Posted July 31, 2024 Meant to post earlier that I don't quite know how Reilly in the BMX didn't win. I don't pretend to know much about BMX judging criteria but I thought both Reilly and the French rider were better than the winner. What a great event to watch though. Quote
Sir Rols Posted August 1, 2024 Report Posted August 1, 2024 Farewell Andy. One of my great memories of London was watching him take gold. Quote
yoshi Posted August 1, 2024 Author Report Posted August 1, 2024 He probably went on a little too long for his body, but that's just him being the battler he is I guess. The end of an era for sure Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 Golds in women's double skulls and trampolining Quote
sebastien1214 Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 I see you getting dangerously close to us on the medal table and I don't like that. Quote
Rob2012 Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 (edited) LOL, I'm pretty sure Bryony Page just sang "Queen", laughed at herself and got it right for the rest of the national anthem. Edited August 2, 2024 by Rob2012 Quote
Michelle Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 (edited) With reference to AM, I feel like he’s been retiring since 2020. It’s been a journey. Edited August 2, 2024 by Michelle Quote
