Thank you dear Scotsman but I think this is not the first Olympic ceremony I have watched. I am simply saying that the protocol parts are always boring; at least that is my opinion, I have never been very excited by the athletes' parades. No need to be as condescending as a French person can be.

Don't expect to see them because of all the ecological yadda yadda (yet they had a massive fireworks display for Bastille day, pointing their hypocrisy). Seems even fireworks are forbidden for these nutjobs.

I'm still waiting to see if there will be any tonight. In fact, part of me can't help but think that maybe there were fireworks planned but they were cancelled because of the rain.

(but if there are no fireworks tonight either, then yes, it would be for "ecological" reasons that I would find a bit hypocritical)

Yery true. And I never found the entrance of the athletes particularly exciting, neither in Sydney nor any other Games. Yes, Sydney had an entertainment part before the athletes entered, but it is not too late yet to get entertained tonight. And if the rumours are true, we will get a fair deal of entertainment. ;)

Very true. Especially after they had those gigantic Olympic-themed fireworks on Bastille Day. Unless they blew the entire annual fireworks budget of the City of Paris and the Republic of France that way. ;)

Andrew Cotter commenting about literally anything other than what's actually happening in front of him

They were talking about Team GB flagbearers "entering soon" for ages without noticing they had been on screen for a couple of minutes.

I wonder what the set up for Irvine/Cotter is for this ceremony. It was...far from ideal...for the opening, as we know.

I especially feel like we're paying the price for our problematic time zone. We have to start the ceremony at 9pm, and it's still daylight; which means we have no choice but to start with the athletes' parade so that the real show can take place at night. And since it's always the least exciting time, it's a timid start for a ceremony.

Another reason for us to switch to UTC+0 instead of UTC+1... (and we're still in UTC+2 with this absurdity of daylight saving time)

love having the ceremony air both on NBC and Telemundo because i can switch to the other when one goes on ad break

So, now that the NBC commentators mentioned it, the menage a trois vignette at the Opening was Jules et Jim!  Now it makes sense!!  Didn't know that at the OC.

That was explained a while ago, but the apparent lack of media guides for the live commentators made them miss it.

No, the ORF coverage of Summer Olympics is awful, F.!

Good to know. I hope they do a better job during Winter Games, which should be their forte.

Australian commentators talking about muffins in the Olympic village...

Anecdote: these muffins are the same ones that all French students (including me, by the way) eat every day at university... since they are the ones that are sold to us.

This means that I am more qualified and legitimate than anyone else on this forum to talk about the food at the Olympic Village B)
