It's just that I have the feeling that we can't do it, because we want to be in a kind of artistic madness and that consequently we are incapable of fulfilling the specifications of the classic ceremonies that everyone fulfills. The Seine was already a little more coherent: a crazy place for a crazy project. Even if it was imperfect, there was a coherence. True, like i said before all of the ceremonies in a stadium that the french have done WC98, RWC2003, Euro2016, RWC2023 and now CC24 have all been crap haha Quote

They just let the whole evening limp along. His whole team didn't have the juice or cojones to put on a show to at least match the Opening even in ambition. Was it all because of the river? And without the Seine, they were reduced to blithering idiots?? Yeah. I think you and I both really enjoyed parts of the opening, even if other parts fell flat. There was nothing to really enjoy in the closing. The highlights for me were the opening Sous Le ciel de Paris and the closing My Way. Everything in between was excruciating. Quote

baron-pierreIV Posted August 11, 2024 Author Report Posted August 11, 2024 I still don't get why the Faceless Torch bearer from the Opening showed up? And then his female persona brought in the flag -- and they begat the hybrid mosquito who unleased the 5 golden rings? Is that Jolly's story for the Closing? Then why have Marchand bring in the flame as well? It all DOESN'T compute?!?! Quote

People watch it. But it’s not as though they judge the actual two weeks of sport on a ceremony. please. This is just a wasted issue. Quote

It’s about organization of the games, are they well attended. The athletes, their performances etc … the average layperson doesn’t give a jot about the OC or closing ceremony. live in the real world. If you know how to read, you would know I never judged the entirety of Paris games as bad just because of the ceremonies. In fact, i've been watching the whole event for two weeks and I have to say it was the best backdrop and setting i've seen in a long time. Even though my country didn't performed particulary well this year, i'm going to have fond memories of many of the sport moments in these games. Quote

HenryOaks Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 What surprises me the most: what's wrong with the French raising flags? Not a good one! Anyway: OC could have been much better without rain. CC has been cheap and boring. Handover segment: a bit disappointing. Both ceremonies had the same problem: lack of organisation and bad TV realisation. The best of the Games: Paris itself, the venues, the crowds and the DJs. Good job! 1 Quote

yoshi Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 One very nice thing I should mention - Dupont handing the French flag over to the Paralympic team. That was a lovely touch. Especially as this will be France's first Paralympics. Quote

Somehow this closing ceremony blew my post Olympic depression away. For now at least. It was just too bad to be too melancholic about the end of the Games now. But I am sure that after a few days, the great memories of the Games themselves will gain the upper hand again. Quote

There are far too many Olympic hosts that did a much better job in a stadium. I’m not saying that. I simply think that in the case of Paris, its urban form is so iconic that no stadium can top it. Paris is arguably the most iconic city in the world. It is the only city that it makes sense to me to not have stadium-based ceremonies. 42 minutes ago, sebastien1214 said: It's not a ceremony that will be remembered. And I don't want us to organize ceremonies in stadiums anymore. Despite its imperfections, the Seine was so much better. I sort of disagree with this too. I think stadiums work for most cities. In most cities, their “iconic” sites are spaced out. Paris and perhaps DC are the only two cities I can think of whose iconic parts are all right next to each other. This is why I think a non-stadium based ceremony for Paris can work in a way that it simply would not for most other cities. Though, a London ceremony down the Mall could be pretty cool. Quote

ejaycat Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) Well, that's one Summer Olympics for the books! The blowing out of the flame inside of the lantern was kind of anti-climactic for me, but overall I didn't mind the closing ceremony. I'd have thought it would have ended with the live concert and the athletes spontaneously celebrating/dancing and then the coverage ends, but it ended with a slightly melancholy song and what looked like people already leaving the stadium.
