The reactions are mainly that no one expected Thomas Bach to launch into humor with puns. Quote
yoshi Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Bloody hell the man tried to crack a pun. That was one of the most awkward things I've ever heard Quote

Yea I like the simplicity of the Athens one too. Somehow the Brazilian tropical rain extinguishing the flame to the singing of that song is just so mesmerising and perfect Quote

FYI Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 4 minutes ago, Olympian2004 said: I don't want to sound presumptuous, but by now, I have probably watched every Olympic opening or closing ceremony of which footage exists on YouTube or other websites. And the idea of incorporating artistic segments into those ceremonies only really started in Moscow in 1980, so there are actually not that many ceremonies to watch in order to get a pretty good basis for comparisons. 2 minutes ago, Sir Rols said: Favourite is just what you enjoyed the best. What’;s so hard or bizarre about that? Most people here indeed HAVE watched multiples and most of them Yeah, I'm not surprised that *some* here have done just that (I'm sure Baron for one, freeze frames, takes out his magnifying glass, takes notes & has added his 'comments' on every Olympic ceremony that there has been). But I doubt it's in the majority that does even close to any of that, even here. Maybe we should do a 'poll' on that. Even you yourself, Rols, have mentioned that you really don't go back to re-watch them & that it's rare for you to do so. So that's what I find bizarre. If you haven't watched ALL of them repeatedly, how can anyone be subjective on any of them. Quote

sebastien1214 Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Thomas Bach who says "Long live the Games, long live France" and forgets to say "long live the Republic". He would make a very bad president of the French Republic. Quote

How often does one have to watch a ceremony "repeatedly" in order to be able to form an opinion about it, in your view. Just asking, because your statement really puzzles me. If we follow this kind of rationale, we shouldn't even be allowed to comment and form an opinion about the current closing ceremony in this chat. Because we only saw this ceremony once by now, right? olimpicgamer Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Why mention Macron? Such a corrupt political move. They should keep politicians out of these games. Quote

Olympian2004 Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 And now the Olympic Anthem with English lyrics - it seems to be mandatory to sing it in English at least once during the Olympic ceremonies in recent years, doesn't it? I still prefer the original Greek version. The English lyrics are a bit tacky. Quote
