JMarkSnow2012 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Has it been normal to have Bach standing almost directly behind the OCOG speaker? Quote
olimpicgamer Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Are they having lots of technical issues? So many empty moments Quote
FYI Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 How can anyone even quantify what was their "favorite" closing? Unless someone has watched each ceremony several times (which most people don't, even here, I think many just watch it once, when it's actually on, & that's it), to fairly determine which was is anyone's fave. Especially when we're talking about having to go back MANY years back for many, like Sydney. Quote

He's the living embodiment of the "How do you do fellow kids" meme. So fucking glad he'll finally be gone in 2025 and I won't have to see him again in Cortina. Mind you, i'm sure the IOC is already filled with people as bad or worse than him, but at least I hope the next president is more charismatic. Wait until they announce their guest of honour on the VIP stand in Stadio Meazza - "the former president of the International Olympic Committee who will always remain an Olympic champion in fencing in 1976 to us... our dear friend Thomas Bach!" Nacholympic Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 It's incredible how 8 years later we take the value of Rio closing ceremony. Quote

StefanMUC Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Tony E is really good as a speaker. Pity he is not (yet) an IOC member. Would have been a perfect choice to succeed Escrime 1976. Quote
sebastien1214 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Tony Estanguet who says "we saw ourselves as a people of indomitable grumblers" (ahem, he hasn't yet seen the reactions of the French to this closing ceremony) Quote

HenryOaks Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 The worst thing is that there was no security cordon to control that the athletes did not go on stage. That was a mess. 1 Quote

I don't want to sound presumptuous, but by now, I have probably watched every Olympic opening or closing ceremony of which footage exists on YouTube or other websites. And the idea of incorporating artistic segments into those ceremonies only really started in Moscow in 1980, so there are actually not that many ceremonies to watch in order to get a pretty good basis for comparisons. The stadium was half empty though, due to the bad storm in Rio on the very last day of the 2016 Games. That also took away from the vibe of the closing ceremony there. Quote

Most people here indeed HAVE watched multiples and most of them Quote
