Now they already have the (now-traditional) thank you to the volunteers. Yeah, I think they wanted to fill the daylight portion of the ceremony with all the non-artistic stuff. Damn time zone... sebastien1214 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Well done to the volunteers. Now can we stop this shame of taking volunteers and not paying them? Their work was essential to the organisation of the Games. They must be paid. I don't care if it means increasing the price of the Games by €500 million. 1 Quote
Bear Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 In Rio 2016 they sang to the volunteers. Now here in Paris 2024, the volunteers sing to us it seems! Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 And now the artistic segment will begin, as pointed out by the German commentators. 1 Quote

olimpicgamer Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 I like that the protocol segments were done first and in day light. It seems it went faster. But it would've been good to have something artistic to grab my attention. Quote

sebastien1214 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Just now, Bear said: that defeats the purpose of volunteering, no? In fact, it is the very concept of volunteering in the context of the Olympic Games that I find unacceptable. (but yes, it goes against the concept, we agree) Quote

yoshi Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Now is a bad time to point out the role of Shropshire in the rebirth of the Olympic movement Quote
rio2016man Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Thank you 45.000 volunteers of Paris 2024 Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 A slight reference to the LA 1984 closing ceremony: We will receive a visitor from space... Quote

Olympian2004 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 One of the German TV commentators just said about Thomas Jolly that he feels bored after one-and-a-half minutes. So why did he then stage an opening ceremony that took forever in some parts? 1 Quote
