AustralianFan Posted January 21, 2024 Report Posted January 21, 2024 Live Chat Closing Ceremony Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games When: 19:45 KST (Korean Stand Time) , Thursday 1 February 2024 Quote
AustralianFan Posted January 21, 2024 Author Report Posted January 21, 2024 Youtube link to watch the Closing Ceremony of Gangwon 2024 from Olympics.com: >>> LIVE: Closing Ceremony - Gangwon 2024 <<< Quote
AustralianFan Posted January 28, 2024 Author Report Posted January 28, 2024 No word yet on performers at the Closing Ceremony, anyone heard anything? Also, it looks likely that a 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games host is not going to be announced before the Closing Ceremony. So as we discussed in the Opening Ceremony live chat, the handover is likely to be a generic “See you in 2028”. Interested parties for the 2028 Games are mentioned in the 2028 WYOGs thread and from an interview with IOC just a few days ago Quote

The shining lights shone through Gangwon 2024 will sparkle once again, supporting each other’s tomorrows It'll take place outside in front of the Gangneung Hockey Centre (presumably where the digital cauldron is?) and will last for around 45 minutes. Afterwards there will be a party at the Gangneung Youth Olympic Village but I don't think that one will be streamed. 1 Quote

Gosh, an outdoor closing ceremony. i thought they might have those young athletes warmer and under cover and in venue with roof like they did at the Opening Ceremony. Quote
PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 To make up for the unknown 2028 WYOG hosts. I have a few guesses as to how they will stage it: 1. A look into the next Winter Olympic event - a Milano Cortina 2026 video? 2. A look into the next Youth Olympic event - Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Games 3. They might surprise us and announce the hosts at the closing ceremony tonight. (possibly Lombardi-Trentino 2028) Quote
PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 Also, Australian viewers will be delighted to know that they have more than one option for watching the Closing Ceremony. 1. You can watch the closing ceremony on 9Gem (Channel 92) with coverage staring at 9:55pm AEDT 2. Watch the Youtube live stream Quote
PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 I don't know if this is correct but I checked the wikipedia article of the 2028 WYOG and it says: Quote The host city will be announced on 1 February 2024 during the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon, hours before the closing ceremony. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2028_Winter_Youth_Olympics Quote

PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 snowing in the concert area! Thomas Bach is welcomed and is standing with the athletes, particularly from Ukraine. A cute countdown with Moongcho, the mascot starts. South Korean anthem is played and sung by children's choir with piano. Going through the flags quickly coming from the stage downstairs with the athletes Quote
Victorian Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 Looks like a pretty basic and boring ceremony Quote
PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 1 million performance was great! highlights video, volunteers gratitude is nice, simple and sweet! 1 Quote
PikyoK Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 Bach's speech was short. The concept of extinguishing the flame was fun with the snowflakes. They should've ended with another performance or a medley of songs from one prominent artist. Very short but fun ceremony. A happy ending to 14 days of great competition. Korea knows how to put on a show! I hope to see Korea host another Olympic edition again Thank you Gangwon! Thank you, Korea! See you in 2028! 1 Quote
dreamyeyes12 Posted February 1, 2024 Report Posted February 1, 2024 Well it was a fun winter youth olympic games. Thank you Gangwon, thank you Korea! See you in Paris 2024 Quote

And I just want to say that this officially marks the end of the olympics being in Asia. From PyeongChang 2018 to Tokyo 2020/21 to Beijing 2022 and finally back to Korea for Gangwon 2024 youth olympics. Quote

I liked it - short, simple, straight to the point. The athlete's got their party after the ceremony ended, and i'm sure they had their fun then. and now it's officially Paris' turn 1 Quote

Even tho they downgraded the number of spectactors from 600K to 300K Quote
