Ikarus360 Posted January 19, 2024 Report Posted January 19, 2024 Short but straight to the point in order to not make it boring for the athletes who surely had fun at the end when the ceremony became a glorified K-Pop concert. Although I imagined they would do more in the Pyeongchang dome than just beggining the torch relay/sing the anthem over there. Quote

Definitely, if only they could've incorporated the Dome in the programme more. Quote

BigVic Posted January 19, 2024 Report Posted January 19, 2024 A simple but fun and exciting Opening Ceremony with plenty of K-Pop. Crowd makes it an atmosphere inside the Yongpyong Dome unlike in Tokyo and Beijing the last two Olympics. Quote

Bear Posted January 19, 2024 Report Posted January 19, 2024 Hey guys! Sorry for not participating in the thread, it was 3 AM here and I didn't want to disturb my roommate with the sounds of constant typing haha Anyways I did watch it live, and it was a fantastic ceremony! The video sequences were amazing and I like how the speed skating track was used for the torch relay and some of the performances. The anthems were very well performed, especially the Korean one. Music was 10/10, and they had great songs during the concert finale (and yeah, it definitely felt like a closing ceremony but I bet the athletes are much more comfortable competing here now!). Not to mention the artistic storyline itself - I loveee the space scenes. If there's one criticism I have, it would be the execution of the dual-venue concept. I feel like we could have gotten more footage from the PyeongChang Dome, or like having a performance there that connected to the main Gangneung Oval show (sort of like how Athens had a video of a drummer at Olympia that interacted with the drummer in Athens). I also believe some of the artists mentioned in the programme were actually performing at the Dome and not Gangneung, meaning we didn't see the full line up, which made many viewers on the YouTube stream confused as they were probably only watching the ceremony to see them perform. Fortunately the Olympic Channel does plan on uploading footage from the Dome on YouTube so we'll get to eventually see what went on over there. That being said, judging on what we did see, it was a great ceremony and sort of relatable in a way. But now, let the competitions begin. 1 Quote

Yes we missed you and totally understand not wanting to disturb your friend. Glad you got to see it anyway and agree with everything you saus, especially the connection between the two venues was a missed opportunity. Thanks for the info too re the footage from the Dome being uploaded, I’ll watch out for that. 1 Quote
