Why are they adding ridiculous sports (except Lacrosse, I want to see that) to the '28 programme, but none of which excite me -- least of all the return of Weightlifting (yawn), Baseball/softball (yawn-yawn)?  I don't give a FF to the other new and returning sports, most of all Boxing!!  Hate that.  I hope LA28 losses $$ on those IDIOTIC new sports they're adding!!

Funnily enough, I see Lacrosse as the most "Old School Olympic" of them - obscure, no one watches outside the games and the Olympics WILL be their pinnacle of achivement.

Baseball and Flag Football are for the "F*ck Yeah, USA!" home crowd. Cricket is there to wring some Rupees out of the Indians.

Happy enough to see weightlifting confirmed, again an Old School Old sport. They still can't get the courage to turf Modern Pentathlon - but I guess it's sacred as your predecessor Baron's baby.

maybe because you're no longer in the targeted age range and demographic for these additions :)

They'll have what? 35 sports by the time '28 opens? I wonder if fans will be able to find the sport they really want to follow on TV or on screaming?

Where is my candidate -- Cake-decorating??

(Because the clip has no advertisers (oddly enough), when it goes black, tap the screen below, then move the red bar to the next break and the show will progress.)

College lacrosse has a pretty good following in the U.S., and there are professional leagues. The last few world championships have had matches broadcast on ESPN as well.

I really don’t understand the “there’s too many sports” argument. If they cut field sizes to accommodate a bunch of sports, then yes, it sucks. If not, I don’t see it negatively impacting the Games. People will just watch what they want to like they already do. There’ll just be more choices now.

Obviously, you don't look at it from an organizational standpoint.  After 1984, when they only had 23 sports (and NO Paralympics to organize), Peter Ueberroth said that even those 23 were too many.  He said, speaking from having just led a successful Games (minus the Commies), that an ideal Games to organize would just be 17 sports.  But I guess there's a complete turn-around now in that Wasserman and his team do NOT want a single facility in southern Cal or elsewhere around the country to go to waste for 2028.  There is such a thing as being "too large."  What made OGs of the past special is that NOT every Tom, Dick and Harry were included in the quadrennial festival.  You had to earn your stripes.  I guess because Wasserman is in the sports mgmt business, he's thinking of every deal he can sign and represent after the Games.  Very ulterior-motivated.

The New York Times weighs in on the mythical nation Haudenosaunee's participation in LA28 LaCrosse.

They Invented the Game. Will They Be Allowed to Play It in the Olympics? - The New York Times

They're really a mythical nation which does not satisfy the IOC's parameters of what a participating member nation is.  And looking at its name - LaCrosse, I think the only reason Wasserman wanted to bring the sport back to LA28 was because of LACrosse.  And if they allow the Haudenosuanee to participate and they win a medal, it should be a "special" medal outside of the usual gold-silver-bronze LA28 medals given to ALL the other sports because it is a team allowed to participate under special circumstances which circumvent the traditional requirements for ALL THE OTHERS participants in these Olympic Games.

yeah, good luck with that.

the only recognized solution is to play under the olympic flag, and even that's a rare concession.

once they give an exception to one ethnic nation without an NOC, they're all going to start suing at international courts and demanding their own flags.

the IOC will likely judge the temporary PR hit will be worth it in the long run.
