AustralianFan
I’ve noticed during this trip to LA that the sorely needed above ground airport shuttle stations at LAX are all complete. These will enable passengers to move more quickly between terminals and then on to the connecting LA Metro Station on the outskirts of LAX. The stations, rail, everything looks in readiness for the testing phase. This will be great for Los Angeles anyway but also for better links and public transport connections to venues during the Games.

Right now (or rather whenever I'm back home) I'm able to get to many of the proposed venues on rail easily, which will be very useful in 2028...

Closer to me when I’m in Orange County is the shortened Long Beach 1500 metre flatwater course for the 2028 Games and rowing/kayak competition. Will check that out too and see if any sign of preparatory works for LA2028, although I’m likely way too early. Will check it out anyway and take some pics. baron-pierreIV
There's a very telling comment about SoFi on YouTube: 'I've attended several games at SoFi when the sun is directly overhead, that translucent roof magnifies the heat into the seats, and if there is no breeze blowing thru the entire cavern, it is like SITTING under a magnifying glass. It is MISERABLE!" How could they NOT have anticipated this? (Not that I really care because I probably won't be seeing anything at SoFi.) Rob2012
Ceremonies and 3 latter stage football matches which I guess will be evening kick offs...probably not going to see much of the overhead sun there luckily.
stryker
Any idea when venues for the additional sports will be announced? I think we can pencil in Dodger Stadium for baseball.

Should be some time soon, their update to the ASOIF from last year mentioned they were targeting the end of 2023 "for clarity on the final jigsaw of sports and venues in order to be in a position to initiate a more collaborative design review and venue planning in 2024"
FYI
So does anybody know when L.A. 2028 is going to announce if the whitewater venue is going to be moved to OKC or not? I've tried looking it up, but the last thing mentioned, is still when they said last summer that a decision was coming "very soon". Well, it's been several months now & still nothing new about it. cfm Jeremie
The IOC EB needs to approve any change to the venue master plan. Next EB is in March so maybe we will now after that.
baron-pierreIV
Possible assignments for the 5 "new" sports? - Baseball/soft will definitely go to Dodgers Stadium (same as 1984) - Lacrosse might double-up w/ field Hockey @ Dignity Health Field Track - Cricket (Angels Field in Anaheim or Santa Anita racetrack? ) Which leaves the following other arenas in the SoCal area waiting for their 2028 assignments: - Bren Center @ UC-Irvine - 5,600 cap - Intuit Arena (18,000 cap) - Long Beach State Walter Pyramid (seats around 5K, I think) - Pepperdine Univ., Malibu - Firestone Fieldhouse (5K, was used for Weightlifting in 1984) - Santa Monica College has a usable gym (used for the start of the 1984 marathons) - Masonic Auditorium by USC (3K+ capacity) Edited March 3 by baron-pierreIV x
Nacre
They should easily be able to put up temporary grandstands for a cricket stadium anywhere. That's not to say that they can't or won't use Angel Stadium, just that they don't need to. If I were in charge of selecting a site, I would be very tempted to use the Woodley Park Cricket Complex (near the Sepulveda Dam) to show off the support the city gives to the sport outside of the Olympics. Oh, there's one there? But is it solid-enough, looking, i.e., not bush-league level? I mean they have to secure the site (fence it off); and then make provisions for TV crews, the organizers, security, the press, the sponsors' tents, concessions for the fans and volunteers, etc., -- all the auxiliary facilities needed for an Olympic Games. Just saw some photos. There's nothing there. I think they might go for Angel Field or another baseball field in some high school in LA proper where they can pass on the improvements as legacy. There has to be some infrastructure already there to build on. Edited March 3 by baron-pierreIV x
Victorian
I am assuming that Cricket will be held at the Orange County Cricket Stadium that is currently being planned

If it's the former, they can probably use the main stadium at Dignity Health after the rugby tournaments are over. And if it's the latter, then maybe they can indeed share with field hockey. StefanMUC
Field hockey tournament usually lasts almost the full two weeks. There us no room in the schedule. Rugby 7s is indeed done & dusted after a few days and since Lacrosse (which I‘m really looking forward to!) will also use a compact format, it should be easy to venue share there.

Wasn't aware of this. If this happens, then this is where Cricket will go. But some folks in Irvine are arguing that this is where their long-promised Veterans Cemetery should go. baron-pierreIV
I had a feeling they would move BASKETBALL to Intuit. Why shouldn't they? It's more state-of-the-art than Staples/Crypto. I'd move Judo and/or Wrestling to the 5K houses--Firestone Fieldhouse @ Pepperdine or the Walter Pyramid @ Long Beach State. (I always wondered why they held on to Pauley for open competition when it's within the security confines of the UCLA Village.) And then they can move Volleyball to Crypto from Anaheim freeing that venue for something else.

I think LA28 is probably getting rough quotes to build it in Sepulveda (or some other natural location in CA) vs. costs of staging it in redneck OK country. The two main drawbacks of OK is that (1) the athletes will not be part of the community that will live in UCLA; and (2) what suitable dorms or hotel rooms are there in the area that can house scores of the athletes, LA28 staffers, volunteers and broadcast crews. But the site is ready operationally and the only thing they will have to add are more grandstand seats.
