Yeah, I thought that Hollywood Park Studios was too good (& too convenient -- right by SoFi and Intuit) to be true.  I see it will be smaller than first envisioned.  Warners will be even a little more complicated to get to from downtown LA (or USC which will be the Main Media Village) than Universal.  I guess Warners (soon to be part of Paramount) will have a few empty soundstages for June-August 2028.

Any idea what the setup for the squash competition will be? I know the venue is Universal Studios, but I cannot see how this can be hosted outside in the summer heat. Inside on one of the sound stages maybe?

They keep saying they will give it a "village" atmosphere.  About the "heat thing" -- well, maybe they will just A/C the acrylic "cubes' the competition will take place in (what? 4 or 6 of them?) -- and then conduct them after the sun has set, so it will be kinder on the spectators, too.  That's how I see them staging this.

Why? Tennis will be played outdoors, as will athletics and many other sports. It doesn't really get that excessively hot in July, it's September/October that we prepare for (but the Games would have been over by then).

But if anything, as Baron said they'll probably still take the necessary measures to ensure that athletes perform comfortably. It should work out in the end.

This is what I was thinking. Those cubes can become sweatboxes in the summer heat. Portable A/Cs would work best.

Let's hope there will be no condensation build-up on the acrylic walls to disrupt the play.  Let's hope they don't hire any of the Trump teams to get involved in these LA Games--what with the mess they've made in the Reflecting Pool, the "State Fair" fiascos.  Such total amateurs!! ANd he says "I hire only the best people."  🤪

Early planning was to erect a 4,000-seat arena in Courthouse Square.  A tight squeeze in there.  I guess the high walls of the set could provide some shade and allow them to start play maybe around 5:00pm??  Let's see if that will happen or not . . .

Para Powerlifting has been confirmed for the Peacock Theater

• In order to accommodate this, Goalball (which is also set to take place in the same venue) will now take place from Day -2 to Day 6. Para Powerlifting will take place between Day 9 and Day 12.

The first competition venue to close for Games-time retrofitting will be the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, which will close on April 1 next year. It will reopen to the public after the Games end.

At first I wasn't a fan that they moved it to Pasadena. But then I remembered the beautiful backdrop with the mountains in the back.

Wow.  A 15-month lead time to prep the site for competition.  If they're not moving the Diving platform to another location, they're going to have to build over the adjoining pool for more bleacher stands.  Moving the Diving Platform to a more central location would also mean having to break the pool floor there for a greater depth in that area.  I guess that's going to be ultra-expensive (and I would think just keep the alteration post-Games use).

Uhmmm . . . I don't think the divers will appreciate the beautiful backdrop when they drop into the water and emerge from it.  Also, I hope the judges will not be distracted by the beautiful San Gabriel mountains.  🤪

OK, thinking about it now my previous post above, I think they will move the Diving Platform, excavate a deeper depth in the new location -- and that is why they are shutting it down for 15 months prior.  Now that they have seen the demand for tickets, they will actually build a very good stadium for Diving and probably go up for 5,000 seats.  I estimate the cost to convert the place would be $2.75 million est.; but they can probably make at least $7 million in ticket sales,   So for Diving alone, LA28 will at least have a gross surplus of $4.25 mil -- not counting sales from merch and concessions at the venue.

It is very interesting that in a recent FIFA Fan Experience poll, SoFi Stadium was ranked near the bottom of all the venue experiences. That's quite unfortunate for an investment of 5.5 billion dollars.

I would take that with a grain of salt. The World Cup and Olympics are apple and oranges comparison. For the World Cup, LA organizers spread the fan experience throughout the city/county with official FIFA Fan Zones moving from zone to zone. Having attended the Iran v New Zealand game I can agree that the experience outside the stadium left much to be desired but the experience inside the stadium was incredible and full of energy.

Then of course, the World Cup was in 16 cities across three countries.

Overall, LA fan zones were top notch even if they were not immediately outside the stadium. Search for pictures/videos of the FIFA Fan Zones at the Coliseum, Union Station, Downey Landing, etc. I imagine the same will be done for LA28 but on a much larger scale. The feedback was almost entirely positive.

SoFi needs to hurry up and finish their master plan. A sea of parking surrounded by residential areas around the stadium is not the most exciting setup for a very exciting city.

I would also add that LA lacked many of the more, lets say, boisterous fan bases like Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Scotland, or Norway. The more exciting team fanbases were in the East Coast and Mexico.

Uh-oh.  (I was wondering how they were going to lay out the course??)  What is LA28 and their renowned X-country course designer thinking?  Are they having Trump-itis?  Tearing down 34 oak trees for the course?  

Why doesn't the IOC just let them use another course, even if it means transporting the horses a little??

Thanks, Bear.  Yeah, it's the hilly part of the Santa Anita R/track property where nothing man-made is built and, from what designer Al Lachore had described, it's on a bluff which separates the SA property from the homes on the other side. 

I can see the point of the citizens; but LA28 also is offering the whole area a legacy that the equestrian community in SoCal/LA county can benefit from -- in having an Olympic-level X-country course afterwards. 

I don't know what LA28's Plan B is; initially I had thought trails in Griffith Park might do -- but the problem is transporting the 30-40 horses that participate in the discipline.  If they use another golf course, LA28 will have to spend to restore it to its natural layout before the Games.  Maybe they should just cut down 28 trees instead of 34?? 🤪

IDEA: LA28 could sell the chopped up oak bits into beautiful souvenirs of the 2028 Olympic Games!! 🤩 The complaining NIMBYs would get the Special Souvenirs if they are good!!

Nah.  They all want to come to the Games.  They're NOT missing out on the Big Party.  All the World Cup countries--even Iran--and their fans came despite all of the challenges.  Even the Russians, it seems, are NOT missing out on this one!!  They're too BIg for one clown to spoil!!
