The International Broadcast Center has been relocated to Hollywood Park, which is in fact NOT in Hollywood but rather in Inglewood next to SoFi Stadium.

Hollywood Park Studios will serve as the IBC site, and is going to be financed by Stan Kroenke, owner of the LA Rams. Construction is set to start later this month. LA28 will be the first tenants once it opens, and when the Games end it will become available for legacy use for studio production and operations.

That makes much more sense inasmuch as the Opening Ceremony and two of the big 5 sports--Swimming & Basketball--are located right there.  I always wondered how they were going to fit the IBC in Studio City/Universal--specially now that Squash will be held at Universal Studios.  It will be so much easier now to transport the working press from their Media Village at USC to Inglewood and back.

Some Para Swimmers aren’t too happy with a different swimming venue to the able swimmers. First time since 2004 there will be a different venue

The only option would be to relocate the Opening Ceremony out of SoFi. There is absolutely no time to convert the stadium from Opening Ceremony mode to Para Swimming mode, as the sport takes up the entire length of the Games. This means that the venue needs to be ready to go on the morning of Day 1, only ~10 hours after the Opening Ceremony

It's not just that,  LA28 has decided (1)  that Para-Swimming will require modifications that will be set up better at the Long Beach lot than what will be available at SoFi.  (2) I don't think they can fill 34,000 seats for Para Swimming.  (3) Para-Swimming might be better and more safely conducted in full daylight instead of the theatrical lighting setting they will use at SoFi. (4) This will be LA's first Paralympics, so LA28 wants to stage it w/in the County of LA borders (which includes Long Beach) -- per the Host City Agreement with LA.  And (5) SoFi might want its Stadium back after August 15 and any extended use by LA28 might be at higher costs--whereas over at the LB Parking lot, it will just be a minimal or nominal fee.

yeah, I can see this being the most important reason. the NFL season begins in the first week of September, so those three weeks will be crucial to dismantle the ceremony set as well as the Olympic swimming infrastructure in order to get it ready for football.

Altho the Stadium would probably have gotten a whole new coat of paint in prep for the July 14/28 Oly Opening.

The Main Press Center has been relocated to the NFL Los Angeles headquarters in Hollywood Park, in order to be in close proximity to the International Broadcast Center:

Furthermore, the host cities for the football tournament are expected to be announced soon this year.

I wonder about that.  With shooting in Hollywood slowing down-- both because of natural market events and some companies not wanting to shoor in the US -- I wonder if this project (the Hollywood Park Studios I mean) will push through to completion.  I have a feeling if Kronke will hold back if the overall signs aren't right.  LA28 better have a back-up plan for this.

WHYYY

It seems LA28 has made a compromise with the LA City Council and has split Sailing across two venues: Long Beach, and… the Port of LA.

Windsurfing and Kite will be at Long Beach, while Dinghy, Skiff, and Multihull will be at the Port of LA.

Obviously, it's all too much for Long Beach -- so they have to share the riches with San Pedro.  And remember, Canoe, Kayak, the 4s, the 8s, and the Triathlon swimming will all be at Long Beach -- in addition to all the others.  So it's a matter of scheduling.  I think they know what they are doing.

I think it's more about trying to keep the peace with the LACC, cause if you remember a few months ago I mentioned that we had a city council member (Tim McOsker) throwing a tantrum over Long Beach's selection. Now, we have LA28 directly quoting McOsker in their venue change press release. If this was about capacity, I feel like they would have announced it with the previous batch of venue assignments. Regardless, I do trust that LA28 is doing this to ensure the best overall outcome for the Games...

Agreed.  It was to throw a few more crumbs LA County's way.  I guess Mr. McOsker proves the adage that the squeaky wheel gets greased sometimes!  😉 Didn't realize that San Pedro and LB Harbor are about 10 miles apart.  (Of course, it means that LA28 will have to set up another OCC (Operations Command Center) on San Pedro to run the events.)

Why would America be suspended? If they were, of course, they wouldn't be a member of either ICC.

Maybe they could host it in Milan, seeing as Italy (yes Italy) have just qualified for the next T20 World Cup.

Our cricket federation has been having some governance issues for a while now, the type that usually gets you suspended by the respective international federation (in this case the ICC)

Cricket is an outlier, not-indigenous sport that is trying to find its footing in Trumpian-USA.  So it's experiencing growing pains.  They'll get their act together by 2027.

Thanks, I assumed it must be something like that, but Google didn't turn up any results for me.

but both LA and Oklahoma will be in a glorious summer.

Inspired me to check the current temperatures in OKC, and all week it'll be mid to upper 30s (C) so not very comfortable for the spectators I think. At least the canoeists will be getting wet so they'll be decent cool, but I do feel for the softball players...

LA though is currently very comfortable with temperatures in the mid 20s (C), so if we are blessed with the same weather in 3 years it should make for a good experience.

Yes the conditions will be very hot for Oklahoma spectators.  They’ll do well to install those grandstand fans that send out the cool water mist with the blowing air.

Well, as one who was putting together what would have been the San Francisco bid for 2016 told me when I asked him  if the old Candlestick location (for where the SF Olympic Stadium would have risen), would be too cold and windy?  He replied: all the better to sell more windbreakers and hats with the Olympic logos.  SImilarly, all the better to sell more hats, visors, sunscreen with LA28 logos for the spectators!!

Or they could stage the softball events at OKC at night.

Apparently, LA will vote in the next few weeks as to whether to proceed with the LA Convention Center expansion.  It's primarily to link the south and west wings of the Center.  If they can get started next month, it will be like 75% ready for 2028, but at which time they will pause construction during Games-time -- and then resume construction to finish by March 2029.

Fresh renderings for the L.A. Convention Center expansion | Urbanize LA

So, I guess it will just provide easy access between the 2 wings . , ,  and maybe give LA28 another extra hall??

I think it is indeed a good thing, especially when there is existing naming rights belonging to a Games' Partner (e.g. Honda Centre).

Something Paris 2024 tried to obtain but without success.

It was more awkward giving sites long identified with a sponsor name a generic title. It's like how even today various people still say "Staples Center" instead of "Crypto Arena."

Quote

https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/olympic-organizers-sale-naming-rights-venues-los-angeles-2028-1.7608836

Wasserman said he also spent time explaining to IOC members how arena and stadium names are part of the lexicon in American sports.

"People know 'Crypto' as 'Crypto,' they don't know it as 'the gymnastics arena downtown,'" Wasserman said of the home of the Lakers, Crypto.com Arena, which will host gymnastics and boxing in 2028.

Commercialism to me, however, went a bit too far in 1996. Street banners for the Centennial Olympics included the name of sponsor corporations. That looked so-called tacky. I recall mentioning that to a co-worker and he said he thought it was okay.
