If an organizing committee wants to have breakdancing, it should be a part of the arts/culture part of an Olympics, which occur before a summer games. And why should that be? Because you said so??

Why not put Ice dancing in the winter cultural Olympics while you are at it. I find it curious that decisions to remove sports are taken before the first event is run. That was the case for Karate, that is again the case for Breaking.

Of all places, I would have expected LA to rave over breaking, why exactly I can't tell you but the vibes of LA just scream breaking to me (maybe because hip hop had a big influence in my sisters clothing while we were growing up in LA)
hektor
Plus I thought that one of the objectives of the IOC was to appeal to younger audiences who have stopped watching network or cable television. Removing breaking and adding lacrosse or flag football is not exactly how I expect them to achieve this. Edited August 2 by hektor

Perhaps the organizers are trying to use it he Olympics as an excuse to create hype for sports otherwise overlooked by Americans?

FYI
It wasn't the L.A. organizers who wanted to create hype over sports overlooked by Americans. It was Bach (& Co) who strong-armed L.A. organizers to include it because of it's large appeal in India, & therefore, to create large broadcast revenue there come 2028, & also because it would serve as a home Games sport there, when India is likely to be awarded the next slot (or two) of the Olympics. Cause yes, it would've made much more sense for Cricket to debut in Brisbane, & not L.A. Cause it was either include Baseball/softball (which makes MUCH more sense for a U.S. Games) AND Cricket, or just Cricket. So the L.A. organizers decided to include both. As FYI said, it was more an explicit gift to India, and to help boost the broadcast rights revenue from India. Not that Oz isn’t happy either. hektor
Glad to see I am not the only one to think breaking should be given a chance, or at least that decision on its inclusion should have happened after both events are run…
