Surfing, Skateboarding and Sports Climbing have already been confirmed in the initial 28 sports list.

Since the initial list does not include boxing, weigthlifting nor modern pentathlon and given that I wouldn't be surprised if at leat two of those sports make it into the programme, I don't think LA 28 would add more than 3 sports maximum (there is no actual limit on the number of sports but on the athletes quota that must remain at 10,500 so you cannot increase that much the number of sports).

Bach has hinted and said a lot of things, most recently being something about the possibility of India hosting in 2036. And I think we can all agree that will likely not happen, unless something catastrophic happens to South Korea or the European continent. That being said, I really really hope LA28 doesn't go with cricket. The quota places should be used for sports that actually are popular in LA and the US. I think the sports programme from Tokyo 2020 (while replacing karate with breaking) would definitely work in LA, so hopefully we see something similar in 2028.

No way I see that being added to the L.A. 2028 program instead of baseball/softball, a huge American past-time sport. If Bach wants it so bad, then he can advocate for it at Brisbane 2032, a Game's selection site that he also helped push along. And in a country that's more receptive to that sport, to begin with, than the U.S. is.

Totally agree. Baseball/softball is surely a MUST for LA, and once you have one team sport, the logistics of yet another flies in the face of trying to keep numbers down.

Otherwise, I’ve got no beef with cricket being added, but as an optional sport at those games where it fits the local flavour and makes more sense. Brisbane, obviously. India, if they can actually finagle a games of their own.

While it’s as yet unproven in the actual games setting, I’d more lean towards breaking making more sense to return again for the LA setting.

Of course, Baseball/Softball (which I personally don't care for) would almost seem to be a natural.  There is the huge Dodgers stadium just waiting to be filled.  B/S would be a big money-earner for the Org Comm.  But, of course, it would probably mean filling at least 200 spaces in the total body count.

So it’s really looking more and more like cricket has made the cut and, even more shockingly, baseball/softball has not

Exclusive: Cricket and flag football still on course for inclusion at Los Angeles 2028, as modern pentathlon looks to have saved itself

The tid bit at the end, that Casey Wasserman is proving an extremely tough negotiator, may prove yet to be the key element of the ultimate decision.

I dunno about flag football. Is it really going to last past the one games?

I hope Casey manages to break down the IOC cause I really do not want to see cricket added over Baseball/Softball...

While cricket would mean a couple of more than decent medal chances for Oz, I’m with you. I’d prefer to see Brisbane showcase cricket, and the US get to show off and shine at its national pastime.

Let’s face it, if adding cricket to the LA programme means that India Right Holder is willing to pay 10 times what they are paying for Paris (from 20 millions to 200 millions) as has been reported in some media, the only thing that Casey must be discussing at the moment is « how much do I get ?» (which is a fare question).

And that surely is the main driving force behind Bach's support, & not so much because he is a "fan" of the sport. And so much for allowing the host cities to allow sports into the program that are popular with the respective host nations. But then again, if MLB isn't willing to commit the players during the Olympics, I can see why that's also a stumbling block for it to be added to the L.A.'28 line-up.

And as an aside, if all Wasserman is concerned about in this is how much is his cut from the deal, it's only fuel for the NOlympics crowd, that all the Olympics do to the host cities, is fill up the pockets of the Olympic coffers, & then stick everyone else with the hefty bill.

Has anyone considered falconry?

Flag Football definitevely wont, but Baseball/Softball weren´t going to return in 2032 either. This for sure means that the International Cricket Council gamble is going to pay-off; the chances of cricket staying after a sure lock for 2032 would increase substancially. It´s only a loss for the hosts, but my country had to built a golf course, so the USA will manage to live with cricket... OH WAIT, THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF THIS LOC PICKS WAS TO AVOID THINGS LIKE THAT, RIGHT? So the menu of sports would be more appetizing for the hosts. But since the beggining, Tokyo 2020, it always was more about the political game between the International Federations and the IOC, and their interests, in actual pratice even if some of this idea still remains.

Doesn´t make the lack of baseball/softball less wack, when you have the Dodger Stadium on your turf, though.

That was a mistake, too. What's so "athletic" about golf anyway? It's just a bunch of pudgy, elitist old(er) guys hitting a little ball with a stick. I guess in that sense, the IOC can relate, but it certainly doesn't belong in the Olympics, though. At least cricket is an actual, physical sport that you can play. But yeah, the whole 'let the host country pick their popular sports for the program is looking more & more like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo these days.
