Are there any thoughts about the youth games in 2030? I cant find much information of interested cities. And I wss wondering why no european country has held it yet?

And what are the demands for a host city for a summer youth games? Cant find that either.

Cambodia could be the preferred host with Phnom Penh as host cities after their successful hosting on the Southeast Asian Games.

Not sure if this is of any interest to folks here, but back in February I was asked by a US lobbying group to put together a feasibility study for an American city that's interested in bidding for 2034/2038. NDA means I can't disclose which city, but I can give a rough timeline. They're planning to send the USOC a letter expressing interest the 1st quarter of next year and if that's well received, going public to the IOC in the 3rd or 4th quarter.

I'm certainly hooked! The only U.S. cities that expressed interest in any edition of the Youth Olympics were Raleigh in 2018 and New York City in 2022 (could only find out about it on Wikipedia, anyone know anything more about it?), and Lake Placid and even Maine considered WInter editions almost all the time they were contested (Maine only 2012, Lake Placid only hasn't considered 2024 so far). I would love for a metropolis New York City or San Francisco or a bigtime college or sports city like Indy, Austin, or Philly to host. They have basically all the venues they need.

Another city interested.

when is the vote?

Under the “New Norm” bullsh!t, whenever the FHC and EB get around to it. But that’s all likely to change if anyone but Kirsty wins the presidency.

No YOG host city election next month - the IOC has decided to pause the process to consider why the Youth Olympic Games exist in the first place and to develop a new youth strategy.

Fair decision though one might wonder why the reflexion on the youth strategy and the (potential) role/position of the Youth Olympic Games in this respect was not conducted prior to opening the targeted dialogue for the YOG 2030.

That's the end of that then. Tbh it never did make a huge amount of sense, the kind of places they were looking for were never really interested (except Dakar) & now there's some actual Olympic bids getting public support it's probably not as necessary now. It's not like the ages of athletes coming into the actual Olympics are going up either. Still, it will at least get the Olympic flag to African soil - finally - later this year - so maybe if that was one of the YOG main purposes, it's job done :)

It might not be the end of the YOG yet but, as I much as I love the YOG (I know I am in a minority here! but I have had the pleasure of enjoying 5 YOG editions accross both summer and winter editions and it is a nice evnt), I gladly admit that their positionning was not clear: elite youth sport events or sports festival? Preparation event for future olympians or mean to attract new public into sport?

Having said that, I credit the YOG for playing a role in developing innovative competition formats, acting as a lab for new sports and disciplines. I am not sure that La Concorde Urban Park would have existed without the Buenos Aires 2018 Urban Park.

Sorta sad… I guess 🤷

I’ve never watched any of the YOGs, not even sure if they were ever televised - but they were a nice way for the likes of Singapore, Argentina and Senegal to get a touch of the Olympics. But I guess few will miss them.

To be honest, I expected more out of this EB session. I thought Kirsty was primed for some “difficult conversations”. I guess they only had the easy conversions instead.

And so Kirsty gets to “press pause” yet again. She’s become pretty good at finding the pause button since her tenure began.
