TorchbearerSydney Posted September 28, 2023 Report Posted September 28, 2023 Fantastic.....would be an amazing coming out party for Poland.....by 206 it would have been 20 years since a new country hosted the SOG (or WOG). 1 Quote
Roger87 Posted September 28, 2023 Report Posted September 28, 2023 I guess the thing may help with this particular bid is related about how Warsaw is becoming a more cosmopolitan European global city with the recent points of economic growth and development. There would have time to build a new Barcelona type project. Still, let's see what happens next. 1 Quote

iceman530 Posted September 28, 2023 Report Posted September 28, 2023 I like this a ton. Poland's economy and defense are projected to grow drastically over the next decade. Great way to modernize some of Warsaw's infrastructure too. Quote

Great way to modernize some of Warsaw's infrastructure too. Warsaw will need a ton of investment in both sports and transportation infrastructure. Costs could get out of hand very quickly. I mentioned before that Warsaw has no need for an Olympic sized athletics stadium so the only option is building one that likely becomes a white elephant using the Slaski Stadium in Chorzow which hosted athletics for the European Games. Outside of the national stadium which has a retractable roof, Warsaw lacks even one 10,000 seat arena. It's public transportation would need millions in upgrades to handle the influx of visitors not to mention more hotels. Sports facility wise, Krakow is more ready than Wsrsaw. The only way it might work is if it's a joint bid with Krakow to minimize costs. 1 Quote

AustralianFan Posted January 5, 2024 Author Report Posted January 5, 2024 It will be up to Poland to choose if they publicly elaborate further on why they are no longer interested in the 2036 Games. Is this more likely another politician in a ‘changed government’ not wanting to follow-through on the previous government’s 2036 Olympics plans, and then having the gall to actually blame the previous government for this “inaction” ? Roger87 Posted January 5, 2024 Report Posted January 5, 2024 Considering this is what happened with Colombia (At Pan Ams true) I guess better now than later. Quote

Very different situations. The 2036 Olympic Games have not been awarded to anyone yet, far from it. Only interested parties in continuousdialogue exist for the 2036 Games, that’s it. On the other hand, Colombia were stripped of the 2027 Pan American Games after having been previously been formally awarded them and signed the host city contract already. Quote

That didn’t stop him creating a party around his own will himself. And that party is still highly manipulative and thus very likely to win the elections. Glad I was wrong with my election prediction and Poland is back to becoming a real democracy again. And restoring democracy should always have precedence over vanity projects like the Olympics, especially when they come from the antidemocratic previous government and its strawman President who sadly is still the head of state for a while. FYI Posted January 6, 2024 Report Posted January 6, 2024 ^OMG, but is Poland's new PM's name really Donald Tusk?! Oh, the irony if we're talking about democracy! Quote

He was already PM long before the other one started his "political career" though. And then he had one of the EU top jobs as well later. Quote

That means, it could be a big boost for Mexico City (With Guadalajara, Tijuana and Monterrey) as a potential 2036 games host. Quote
