Mercer has Tokyo; Swiss Bank UBS has London. However, EIU has OSLO as the most expensive city in the world for 2006.

Well, I suppose it does help you if you're negotiating a living allowance when you're posted by work to one of those more expensive cities.

I have to admit that is a good point, roltel, because I have never experience living in such cities before in the positive light. Besides, how much money per year would an average Oslo citizen need to live on, given this ranking?

Well you'd know where to get a bargain if you lived there.  Tourists get fleeced in Oslo.  Third rate hotels are still 100+ euro.  Reykjavik doesn't surprise me - but Paris dearer than London?  OK then...
