The Super Bowl commercials. Oh, the Super Bowl commercials. I'll get to them next time--and we're getting new details on them. But suffice to say, a 30-second Super Bowl TV spot now costs $7 million.

KC will wear white with the red pants and helmets for the first time since the first AFL-NFL World Championship Game, aka the first Super Bowl, in Super Bowl LVII and the Philadelphia Eagles will again sport their home midnight green jerseys and helmets with white pants, as they always have worn green in every Super Bowl they entered in. Both adding some spice in those Super Bowl LVII patches affixed to them. Uniform matchup now announced.  If forms holds, every team donning white has won a Phoenix area-hosted Super Bowl, although that morally corrupt, low down and dirty, and cheating Evil Empire New England should NEVER had won the last one there--one of the worst Super Bowls of all time!

Now we're getting into the commercials...

This will be a brief rundown of some commercials to watch for but will tackle them in greater detail later. Maya Rudolph stars in a M&M's commercial with the hope of turning them into Ma&Ya's. New Colorado Buffalos football coach Deion Sanders goes to his family reunion for Oikos Greek yogurt. Ozzy Osbourne works at a cubicle with Gary Clark Jr. nearby for Workday (I'm sure there will be hijinks). Missy Elliott and Jack Harlow are doing a Doritos commercial together for its brand new Sweet and Tangy BBQ flavor. Rob Gronkowski launches a Kick of Destiny campaign with Fan Duel Sportsbooking. Dave Grohl is in for Crown Loyal. Diddy, back after his memorable Pepsi one with Carson Daly, "doesn't do jingles" for an Uber One commercial. Alicia Silverstone returns to her iconic Cher Horowitz Clueless character for Rakuten (surely there will be an "as if" groaned by her there) Melissa McCarthy returns to the Super Bowl ad world with a Booking.com one. Melissa Trainor shills for Pringles. Husband and wife Miles Teller and Kayleigh Sperry are in a Bud Light commercial.

Blockbuster's first commercial released in a decade with a Super Bowl party held in its final store in Bend, Oregon with a commercial made on VHS, that can be rented for $2 a day from Dish Network. Avocados From Mexico, a regular Super Bowl staple, has decided to back from its planned use of AI's ChatGPT for its 30-second spot to ensure more time to perfect and handle the technology as it should. And the team run out of time. Will be others I'll mention.

Interesting with involving these stars that, this week, Missy Elliott is among the finalists (and a fave) for 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame enshrinement, and Ozzy Osbourne announced he will stop touring.

Mindful with this being Black History Month, Super Bowl LVII will feature for the first time two black starting quarterbacks in Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Hurts, just around 16 years after we witnessed additional history in two opposing black Super Bowl coaches in good friends Tony Dungy (Indianapolis Colts) and Lovie Smith (Chicago Bears). Also making it the youngest quarterback tandem in Super Bowl history.

National anthem will be sung by Chris Stapleton. America The Beautiful by R&B singer Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds. Emmy winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing" as all three songs will also be translated on the field in American Sign Language by actor and Arizona native Troy Kotsur. Ref is Carl Chevers. FOX Sports broadcasting tandem is the prime tandem of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen for the first time with Erin Andrew and Tom Rinaldi as sideline reporters and Mike Pereira as rules analyst.

Bell Media press release for the detailed planned comprehensive live Canadian Super Bowl LVII coverage from CTV, TSN, and RDS. Everything's distinctly Canadian in presentation except for the live game itself like its own TSN Sportscentre. Will also present Canadian Super Bowl commercials from Bell, ClearScore, FanDuel, H&R Block, Osmow’s, P&G (Downy), Pathways Alliance, PepsiCo Canada, Questrade, Re/Max Canada, and Tim Hortons with FanDuel, TD Bank Group, GMC, Expedia, and Vrbo announced as game sponsors. Puppy Bowl returns as Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef, the Season 2 premiere, scores the most coveted timeslot in primetime television, immediately following SUPER BOWL LVII on CTV. Live radio coverage of Super Bowl LVII airs across TSN Radio stations (TSN 690 Montreal, TSN 1200 Ottawa, TSN 1050 Toronto, and TSN 1260 Edmonton) in Canada:

Shouldn't forget the US Spanish Super Bowl LVII broadcast: FOX Sports is taking care of that too with FOX Deportes. Adrian Garcia-Marquez and Alejandro Villanueva are your in-game sportscasting tandem with Rodolfo Landeros and Jessi Losada working the studio. Pregame coverage starts at 4 pm.

Super Bowl LVII is regarded as both the Andy Reid Bowl, in reference to current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid facing his former franchise, the Philadelphia Eagles, for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. And The Kelce Bowl for brothers Travis (KC tight end) and Jason (Philadelphia center) will face each other, a first in the Super Bowl era to have opposing brothers.

On the radio side of things, Westwood One Sports got the prime duo of Kevin Harlan (play-by-play) and Hall of Famer quarterback Kurt Warner (analyst) calling the game with Laura Okmin and Mike Golic as sideline reporters and Gene Steratore as its own rules analyst.

History will also be made with Telemundo presenting the first ever digital Spanish-language Super Bowl broadcast on all Telemundo's digital platforms that kicked off Thursday:

Kansas City-based Tico Sports will supply the digital radio Super Bowl LVII competing broadcast coverage for both the Chiefs and Eagles, a first for the media company. There will be separate broadcast gameday crews for both teams--consists of Oscar Monterroso, Founder and Color Commentator, Kike Morales, Play by Play, and Hannah Bassham, Sideline Reporter (Chiefs) and Rickie Ricardo, Play by Play, Oscar Budejen, Color Commentator, Bill Kulik, producer, and David Gerhardt, spotter (Eagles). It has already broadcasted over 100 NFL games for 5 different NFL teams:

Also this important development, local Arizona indigenous/Native American culture, art, representation, pre-game festivities, and land acknowledgement will be featured during Super Bowl LVII involving the Xicana, Apache, Navajo Yaqui, Ak-Chin, Dine, Apache, Gila River, and Tohono O'odham Nation. We've already now seeing this being done with their Australian Aboriginal counterparts on important events, sports included. Three Native Americans will be involved in-game in the Super Bowl like Kansas City Chiefs long snapper and Choctaw Nation citizen James Winchester and Cherokee Nation citizen Jerod Phillips as a down-judge game official. The Eagles themselves are staying river now at the Sheraton Hotel on Gila River Indian land:

Back to the commercials. At least four cryptocurrency commercials were planned to air for this Super Bowl in carrying over from the previous one, but they all fell through following the embarassing bankruptcy and collapse of FTX in November 2022. Can't forget about the upcoming movies, which are now a staple of Super Bowl advertising for over 20 years: Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, Disney, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, MGM, Lionsgate, Amazon Studios, and Peacock are also set to promote their upcoming films and series during the game, with trailer premieres expected for The Flash, Fast X, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Little Mermaid, Elemental, Scream VI, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, 65, and Air. A 15-second spot for Universal's Cocaine Bear will air during the pre-game show. Fox meanwhile will also air a commercial for the season 9 premiere of The Masked Singer during the game.

The Maya Rudolph M&M's Ma&Ya's one reflects on her being a temporary spokesperson for the candy minus the long-running "spokescandies" taking a hiatus ahead of the Super Bowl after taking some criticism. And making them clamshelled. M&M's continues on this strange track record string of Super Bowl ad stunts that proved to be sometimes polarizing:

https://www.thedrum.com/news/2023/02/02/mm-s-strange-super-bowl-lvii-saga-continues-maya-rudolph-adds-clams-the-mayas-mix

The big trend right now with Super Bowl commercials is the unique teamups with different companies, who may not have much in common or to do with each other. Actually I like these tandems. With the increasing 30-second Super Bowl TV spot costs rising, we can expect more of this in the future.    General Motors and Netflix to Molson Coors and DraftKings, and Michelob Ultra and Netflix’s golf docuseries. If executed right, they can be memorable and rise above the rest:

 https://adage.com/article/special-report-super-bowl/super-bowls-hottest-trend-brand-partnerships/2467656

Also after 30 years of exclusivity, Anheuser-Busch is no longer the exclusive alcohol Super Bowl TV sponsor, going back to the Bud Bowl days. The company, with its stable of well-known commercials, decided not to renew its exclusivity contract, paving the way for other brands to purchase airtime. A shift in advertising strategy explains the decision.

A Michelob commercial inspired by the classic sports movie Caddyshack stars Alex Morgan, Tony Romo, Brian Cox, Jimmy Butler, Nneka Ogwumike, Canelo Álvarez and Serena Williams for the Full Swing Gossip Netflix. John Travolta pays a roundabout tribute to his fallen, late Grease co-star and longtime friend Olivia Newton-John with the help of Zach Braff and Faison Love singing a song sung to the tune of Grease's classic "Summer Nights" for T-Mobile. Jon Hamm and Brie Larson are in a Hellman's Mayonnaise commercial. Mr. Peanut from Planter's get roasted by Jeff Ross, Natasha Leggero, Atsuko Okatsuka, Frank Castillo, Yamaneika Saunders, David Lucas, and Sarah Tiana. More on the Dave Grohl Crown Royal commercial: it's supposed to aired also up in Canada as a thank you for all the things the nation created. Pepsi has Steve Martin and Ben Stiller. Avocados From Mexico has Anna Faris in a Adam & Eve sendup with the avocado eventually forever changing history and better. WeatherTech successfully defying the cynical naysayers on the commonly accepted assumptions manufacturing and labor in the USA for 33 years. Other music artists for Workday include now also Billy Idol and Joan Jett. Adam Driver stars in a Squarespace "Singularity" commercial. Serena Williams is in a Remy Martin commercial. Breaking Bad's Walter & Jesse return for Popcorners. Skechers ropes in Snoop Dogg. The E-Trade Baby returns. Dunkin Donuts' first Super Bowl commercial has "Ben brewing" with Ben Affleck, filmed in Boston (could be like that Volkswagen commercial with notable Boston pop stars?) with Jennifer Lopez cameo. Heinz 57 ketchup has some fun with Super Bowl LVII with people who do not know Roman numerals. GM and Netflix bring Will Ferrell as part of their aforementioned collab to encourage electric vehicle purchasing. Dexcom glucose monitoring G7 involves Nick Jonas (he's diabetic). There's others.

As expected all the Super Bowl advertising is completely sold out. Many spent in the mid-$6 million with first-timers going for $7m:

Super Bowl LVII down under on the Seven Network and 7+ on Monday morning starting with pregame coverage at 9am AEST with details here, including the first Aussie to appear in a Super Bowl in reporting mode:

In Britain, Super Bowl LVII will be televised on the free-to-air network ITV (for the first time since 2007) and in the UK and Ireland on paid-subscription channel Sky Sports NFL (as well as its sister channels Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Showcase) and will be carried on radio via BBC Radio 5 Live.

Germany and Austria will have this Super Bowl as the final NFL game televised by ProSieben, Puls 4 and Puls 24 (with original English game commentary) – TV channels that all belong to the same media group: ProSiebenSat.1 Media. After that, the German/Austrian TV broadcasting rights for NFL broadcasts will transfer to RTL Group (RTL, Nitro) starting for the 2023 season.

Swedes will have for the first time this game be televised by linear TV-channel TV12 and on the streaming service C More, following the broadcasting right transfer from previous right-holder NENT/Viaplay which has broadcast the NFL in Sweden since the 1980s.

Here we are! Super Sunday! :)

We're now counting down to the final hours and minutes before this Super Bowl kicks off. I would've liked to write this several hours earlier, but I only have this final hour as I write this. So I only going to be brief than I usually am. Hopefully, I'll catch up with a look back during the week. Along with more stuff. I plan to eat some chicken wings a short time later at a restaurant while watching the Super Bowl, the commercials, RiRi's halftime show, and some pre- and postgame stuff. If only I already got myself a computer and tablet already...

If you want to know more about the upcoming Super Bowl LVII commercials, go ahead and visit this website. I promise I'll comment about them afterwards. This is where I get my info on them:

https://www.superbowl-ads.com/

Want my Super Bowl LVII prediction? Certainly a pick'em here. If it weren't for Patrick Mahomes' high sprain ankle injury, I would not be as reluctant in taking the Chiefs. My heart a bit wants to see them win because I'm from Missouri; wouldn't be upset if either the Chiefs or Eagles ultimately win. This one will be won on the trenches. Right now if pressed, I'm going for Philadelphia because of its defense and pass rushing along with Jalen Hurts. Defense isn't as strong with the Chiefs. But Kansas City's got superstar Mahomes, and they need to get striking offensively to place a shock on Philadelphia. May head into within two touchdowns. Expect to be high scoring.

Phoenix's abuzzing not just because of Super Bowl LVII but also of the excitement coming from the Kevin Durant Phoenix Suns trade bombshell and of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Best week ever for Phoenix?

Will deal with them individually. But Sports Video Group created a blog section devoted to Super Bowl LVII for all the sports tech developments:

https://www.sportsvideo.org/blogs/?blog=super-bowl-lvii

The game will also be available via streaming to mobile devices on NFL+ with Fox broadcasting the game in Dolby Vision high-dynamic-range (HDR) color exclusively on Xfinity and Sportsradar. Disney is using this Super Bowl to also air a commercial to kickoff its "100 Years of Wonder" celebration, in honor of the centennial anniversary of the founding of The Walt Disney Company. FOX is touting that this Super Bowl LVII could shatter the current record of 114.4 million viewers held by Super Bowl XLIX between the Evil Empire New England and Seattle Seahawks in 2015, one of the worst games ever!

What did you all think of the halftime show? I liked the floating platforms and the camera angles with these, but otherwise thought it was a bit underwhelming. Going with Paris choreography again...
